Die Heilige Schrift (Luther 1545)

Hab 1:1 The burden which Habakkuk the prophet did see. (kjv)

Hab 1:1 The oracle which Habakkuk the prophet saw.

Hab 1:2 O LORD, how long shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear! even cry out unto thee of violence, and thou wilt not save! (kjv)

Hab 1:2 How long, O Lord, will I call for help, And You will not hear? I cry out to You, "Violence!" Yet You do not save.

Hab 1:3 Why dost thou shew me iniquity, and cause me to behold grievance? for spoiling and violence are before me: and there are that raise up strife and contention. (kjv)

Hab 1:3 Why do You make me see iniquity, And cause me to look on wickedness? Yes, destruction and violence are before me; Strife exists and contention arises.

Hab 1:4 Therefore the law is slacked, and judgment doth never go forth: for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore wrong judgment proceedeth. (kjv)

Hab 1:4 Therefore the law is ignored And justice is never upheld. For the wicked surround the righteous; Therefore justice comes out perverted.

Hab 1:5 Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvelously: for I will work a work in your days which ye will not believe, though it be told you. (kjv)

Hab 1:5 "Look among the nations! Observe! Be astonished! Wonder! Because I am doing something in your days-- You would not believe if you were told.

Hab 1:6 For, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, which shall march through the breadth of the land, to possess the dwellingplaces that are not their's. (kjv)

Hab 1:6 "For behold, I am raising up the Chaldeans, That fierce and impetuous people Who march throughout the earth To seize dwelling places which are not theirs.

Hab 1:7 They are terrible and dreadful: their judgment and their dignity shall proceed of themselves. (kjv)

Hab 1:7 "They are dreaded and feared; Their justice and authority originate with themselves.

Hab 1:8 Their horses also are swifter than the leopards, and are more fierce than the evening wolves: and their horsemen shall spread themselves, and their horsemen shall come from far; they shall fly as the eagle that hasteth to eat. (kjv)

Hab 1:8 "Their horses are swifter than leopards And keener than wolves in the evening. Their horsemen come galloping, Their horsemen come from afar; They fly like an eagle swooping down to devour.

Hab 1:9 They shall come all for violence: their faces shall sup up as the east wind, and they shall gather the captivity as the sand. (kjv)

Hab 1:9 "All of them come for violence. Their horde of faces moves forward. They collect captives like sand.

Hab 1:10 And they shall scoff at the kings, and the princes shall be a scorn unto them: they shall deride every strong hold; for they shall heap dust, and take it. (kjv)

Hab 1:10 "They mock at kings And rulers are a laughing matter to them. They laugh at every fortress And heap up rubble to capture it.

Hab 1:11 Then shall his mind change, and he shall pass over, and offend, imputing this his power unto his god. (kjv)

Hab 1:11 "Then they will sweep through like the wind and pass on. But they will be held guilty, They whose strength is their god."

Hab 1:12 Art thou not from everlasting, O LORD my God, mine Holy One? we shall not die. O LORD, thou hast ordained them for judgment; and, O mighty God, thou hast established them for correction. (kjv)

Hab 1:12 Are You not from everlasting, O Lord, my God, my Holy One? We will not die. You, O Lord, have appointed them to judge; And You, O Rock, have established them to correct.

Hab 1:13 Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity: wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous than he? (kjv)

Hab 1:13 Your eyes are too pure to approve evil, And You can not look on wickedness with favor. Why do You look with favor On those who deal treacherously? Why are You silent when the wicked swallow up Those more righteous than they?

Hab 1:14 And makest men as the fishes of the sea, as the creeping things, that have no ruler over them? (kjv)

Hab 1:14 Why have You made men like the fish of the sea, Like creeping things without a ruler over them?

Hab 1:15 They take up all of them with the angle, they catch them in their net, and gather them in their drag: therefore they rejoice and are glad. (kjv)

Hab 1:15 The Chaldeans bring all of them up with a hook, Drag them away with their net, And gather them together in their fishing net. Therefore they rejoice and are glad.

Hab 1:16 Therefore they sacrifice unto their net, and burn incense unto their drag; because by them their portion is fat, and their meat plenteous. (kjv)

Hab 1:16 Therefore they offer a sacrifice to their net And burn incense to their fishing net; Because through these things their catch is large, And their food is plentiful.

Hab 1:17 Shall they therefore empty their net, and not spare continually to slay the nations?(kjv)

Hab 1:17 Will they therefore empty their net And continually slay nations without sparing?

Hab 2:1 I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved. (kjv)

Hab 2:1 I will stand on my guard post And station myself on the rampart; And I will keep watch to see what He will speak to me, And how I may reply when I am reproved.

Hab 2:2 And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. (kjv)

Hab 2:2 Then the Lord answered me and said, "Record the vision And inscribe it on tablets, That the one who reads it may run.

Hab 2:3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry. (kjv)

Hab 2:3 "For the vision is yet for the appointed time; It hastens toward the goal and it will not fail. Though it tarries, wait for it; For it will certainly come, it will not delay.

Hab 2:4 Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith. (kjv)

Hab 2:4 "Behold, as for the proud one, His soul is not right within him; But the righteous will live by his faith.

Hab 2:5 Yea also, because he transgresseth by wine, he is a proud man, neither keepeth at home, who enlargeth his desire as hell, and is as death, and cannot be satisfied, but gathereth unto him all nations, and heapeth unto him all people: (kjv)

Hab 2:5 "Furthermore, wine betrays the haughty man, So that he does not stay at home. He enlarges his appetite like Sheol, And he is like death, never satisfied. He also gathers to himself all nations And collects to himself all peoples.

Hab 2:6 Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, Woe to him that increaseth that which is not his! how long? and to him that ladeth himself with thick clay! (kjv)

Hab 2:6 "Will not all of these take up a taunt-song against him, Even mockery and insinuations against him And say, 'Woe to him who increases what is not his-- For how long-- And makes himself rich with loans?'

Hab 2:7 Shall they not rise up suddenly that shall bite thee, and awake that shall vex thee, and thou shalt be for booties unto them? (kjv)

Hab 2:7 "Will not your creditors rise up suddenly, And those who collect from you awaken? Indeed, you will become plunder for them.

Hab 2:8 Because thou hast spoiled many nations, all the remnant of the people shall spoil thee; because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein. (kjv)

Hab 2:8 "Because you have looted many nations, All the remainder of the peoples will loot you-- Because of human bloodshed and violence done to the land, To the town and all its inhabitants.

Hab 2:9 Woe to him that coveteth an evil covetousness to his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the power of evil! (kjv)

Hab 2:9 "Woe to him who gets evil gain for his house To put his nest on high, To be delivered from the hand of calamity!

Hab 2:10 Thou hast consulted shame to thy house by cutting off many people, and hast sinned against thy soul. (kjv)

Hab 2:10 "You have devised a shameful thing for your house By cutting off many peoples; So you are sinning against yourself.

Hab 2:11 For the stone shall cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the timber shall answer it. (kjv)

Hab 2:11 "Surely the stone will cry out from the wall, And the rafter will answer it from the framework.

Hab 2:12 Woe to him that buildeth a town with blood, and stablisheth a city by iniquity! (kjv)

Hab 2:12 "Woe to him who builds a city with bloodshed And founds a town with violence!

Hab 2:13 Behold, is it not of the LORD of hosts that the people shall labour in the very fire, and the people shall weary themselves for very vanity? (kjv)

Hab 2:13 "Is it not indeed from the Lord of hosts That peoples toil for fire, And nations grow weary for nothing?

Hab 2:14 For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea. (kjv)

Hab 2:14 "For the earth will be filled With the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, As the waters cover the sea.

Hab 2:15 Woe unto him that giveth his neighbour drink, that puttest thy bottle to him, and makest him drunken also, that thou mayest look on their nakedness! (kjv)

Hab 2:15 "Woe to you who make your neighbors drink, Who mix in your venom even to make them drunk So as to look on their nakedness!

Hab 2:16 Thou art filled with shame for glory: drink thou also, and let thy foreskin be uncovered: the cup of the LORD's right hand shall be turned unto thee, and shameful spewing shall be on thy glory. (kjv)

Hab 2:16 "You will be filled with disgrace rather than honor. Now you yourself drink and expose your own nakedness. The cup in the Lord's right hand will come around to you, And utter disgrace will come upon your glory.

Hab 2:17 For the violence of Lebanon shall cover thee, and the spoil of beasts, which made them afraid, because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein. (kjv)

Hab 2:17 "For the violence done to Lebanon will overwhelm you, And the devastation of its beasts by which you terrified them, Because of human bloodshed and violence done to the land, To the town and all its inhabitants.

Hab 2:18 What profiteth the graven image that the maker thereof hath graven it; the molten image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work trusteth therein, to make dumb idols? (kjv)

Hab 2:18 "What profit is the idol when its maker has carved it, Or an image, a teacher of falsehood? For its maker trusts in his own handiwork When he fashions speechless idols.

Hab 2:19 Woe unto him that saith to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it. (kjv)

Hab 2:19 "Woe to him who says to a piece of wood, 'Awake!' To a mute stone, 'Arise!' And that is your teacher? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, And there is no breath at all inside it.

Hab 2:20 But the LORD is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.(kjv)

Hab 2:20 "But the Lord is in His holy temple. Let all the earth be silent before Him."
