Ebay Well, my '75 300D is for sale now as well. Located in San Fran area of CA. Engine trouble, though I never investigated how much. I think the ad explains it pretty well. I have it on ebay for $100.00 with no reserve-just need to move it. It also is the one with the auxillary fuel cell in the trunk that holds an additional 22 gallons. This is full of diesel fuel (probably 30 gallons all together in there right now) which goes with it. Tranny good, power windows, brakes, sunroof, alternator, etc all good. Has AC hardware, though switch was out so I don't know condition of this equipment. Please bid and take it away!!! I NEED the money!!! Thanks! I can feel heat... I pull out on the highway and mash the go pedal and cool air enters the cabin... wazzzup? Is it the mythical monovalve that I learned about in my 123 series 300D? (I think I spotted the critter under the hood in this 126 series 300SD.) Is that the right symptom for a monovalve? I can't remember what the symptoms were when I replaced that one in Fritz. It may have been full heat no matter what I did... (I can't begin to express my dislike for this Rube Goldberg abomination.) Anyway, I need to fix it so I can sell it without problems. Had a guy look at it tonight. Another guy is coming from Eastern Washington this weekend. I don't know why he doesn't do like I just did. :) I bought an '80 Cherokee sight unseen. I get about 700 miles to the quart, so I have resigned myself to just cough up the cash and have Ben Schotz try to fix it tomorrow. He said the appetite comes in two primary forms. First is just consuming oil, which would indicate valve stuff, and the fix would be substantially less expensive than the second form. Second form is leak at the head gasket, and once you're in to fix that, you might as well do the timing chain, etc., so you're talking well over a thousand bucks. When I added oil yesterday, I took another look, and I saw what looked like a nice fresh oil coating over most of the passenger side of the front of the motor. I'm also leaking power steering fluid, hopefully just from one of the PS hoses (Ben will address that, too), but I don't think this would be power steering fluid on the passenger side of the motor, since the PS pump is on the driver side. But the PS leak is enough to make me unsure of what is collecting in the drip pan below the motor, and I'm pretty sure the godawful smell is roasting PS fluid, rather than roasting oil. Question is this: If I am experiencing both head gasket oil leaks and valve stem-related oil consumption, but I only have the valve work done at this time (in addition to fixing the power steering leak), how much will I regret this decision, and might my oil appetite be reduced enough to afford to switch to Mobil 1? My 85 300D has what Ben calls a nasty oil leak at the vacuum pump mounting gasket, and it did a convincing job of marking its parking space, but it never went through fluids like this M103. The ironic part is that I may end up throwing almost as much money into these leaks as it would have taken to bring the 85 300D back into shape. And I bought the 300CE last February because I didn't want to throw that money into the W123. Serves me right. The one I replaced was definitely shot, and this behavior was completely corrected by the VERY inexpensive replacement. I would say, if you think you see the monovalve, open it up and pull the innards. See if the rubber is shredded. Put it back in, and order the replacement. I remember it only taking four screws (and three licks) to get to the center, so it's not much more work than checking an air filter.
