I had two, really liked them. More power than the same sized 617, more efficient, easier to start when cold (will start colder without a block heater), and didn't require valve adjustments. Thing to watch for on them is the head can crack, though if it hasn't by now, odds are it won't as long as it doesn't get overheated. With 300k, I'd be looking at the rest of the car for wiped out suspension and a tired trans and interior. Could need a timing chain sometime soon (there is a procedure to check for chain stretch), and could have noisy lifters that aren't really a problem. At this time, my son is north of Redding, CA, heading through the worst of the passes in the next few hours... hoping he'll make Medford, Oregon by 4pm/dark so he doesn't have to deal with the Siskiyous in the dark. Roads are clear but the temps are in the upper 20's at the highest point on I-5 (around 4,300 feet). After 4 years in the US Air Force he's a free man... driving a U-haul truck with car trailer carrying his '74 Javelin with a Ford 460. He should be home around midnight tonight (Thurs 17 Jan 2008). Tomorrow we try to pack 10lbs of crap into a 5lb bag... unload the truck and try to figure out where to put his stuff... should be loads of fun... Then, if there is time, we'll run down to Centralia to retrieve Omega (my '91 Grand Wag). Curtis is finished with it, but it's not running... still many little things left to do. He had it running briefly so there is hope of having it going this weekend. Then after Mark and I rebuild the carport we'll head back down to retrieve Superdawg (my '83 J10 stepside), by then curtis claims he'll have it reassembled enough to be towed home. Only seven years... another proof that outsourcing doesn't work... seems like my employer also learned this painful lesson... If you want something done, you need to do it yourself. I'm going to miss one of my grad school classes tomorrow... oh, so sad. ;) ONLY six more class sessions left until I'm done... graduate 16 Feb 2008!!! Will be nice to be done with it. Glad I did it. Embry Riddle Aeronautical University's Masters of Science in Technical Management degree program is excellent. I started out with a cohort of about 22 folks, the class is down to about 12 that have seen it through. Right at two full years. Every other weekend Friday evening and Saturday. I finished my tmcp project last year, so when this last class is done, I'm done... :) http://wagoneers.com/CS/XP_vs_LINUX.pdf If you're on I-5 north of Redding, keep your eyes open for a U-haul with black and white javelin on a car trailer... :) later, john ----- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://freegift.com ** http://wagoneers.com ** - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- there's a solution for every problem; problem is can we afford the solution? - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 Jan 2008 09:30:29 -0800 (PST) From: john Subject: [db] Re: xj: Re: OT - Patriot info? only if there is a solid axle conversion kit and a DIESEL available.
