289 - Mark 8-9
Mar 8:1 In those days the multitude being very great, and having nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples unto him, and saith unto them, (kjv) Mar 8:1 In those days, when there was again a large crowd and they had nothing to eat, Jesus called His disciples and said to them, Mar|8|1|ἐν ἐκείναις ταῖς ἡμέραις πάλιν πολλοῦ ὄχλου ὄντος καὶ μὴ ἐχόντων τί φάγωσιν, προσκαλεσάμενος τοὺς μαθητὰς λέγει αὐτοῖς,
Mar 8:2 I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now been with me three days, and have nothing to eat: (kjv) Mar 8:2 "I feel compassion for the people because they have remained with Me now three days and have nothing to eat.
Mar 8:3 And if I send them away fasting to their own houses, they will faint by the way: for divers of them came from far. (kjv) Mar 8:3 If I send them away hungry to their homes, they will faint on the way; and some of them have come from a great distance."
Mar 8:4 And his disciples answered him, From whence can a man satisfy these men with bread here in the wilderness? (kjv) Mar 8:4 And His disciples answered Him," Where will anyone be able to find enough bread here in this desolate place to satisfy these people?" Mar|8|4|καὶ ἀπεκρίθησαν αὐτῶ οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ ὅτι πόθεν τούτους δυνήσεταί τις ὧδε χορτάσαι ἄρτων ἐπ᾽ ἐρημίας;
Mar 8:5 And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven. (kjv) Mar 8:5 And He was asking them," How many loaves do you have?" And they said," Seven."
Mar 8:6 And he commanded the people to sit down on the ground: and he took the seven loaves, and gave thanks, and brake, and gave to his disciples to set before them; and they did set them before the people. (kjv) Mar 8:6 And He directed the people to sit down on the ground; and taking the seven loaves, He gave thanks and broke them, and started giving them to His disciples to serve to them, and they served them to the people.
Mar 8:7 And they had a few small fishes: and he blessed, and commanded to set them also before them. (kjv) Mar 8:7 They also had a few small fish; and after He had blessed them, He ordered these to be served as well.
Mar 8:8 So they did eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets. (kjv) Mar 8:8 And they ate and were satisfied; and they picked up seven large baskets full of what was left over of the broken pieces.
Mar 8:9 And they that had eaten were about four thousand: and he sent them away. (kjv) Mar 8:9 About four thousand were there; and He sent them away. Mar|8|9|ἦσαν δὲ ὡς τετρακισχίλιοι.
Mar 8:10 And straightway he entered into a ship with his disciples, and came into the parts of Dalmanutha. (kjv) Mar 8:10 And immediately He entered the boat with His disciples and came to the district of Dalmanutha.
Mar 8:11 And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him, seeking of him a sign from heaven, tempting him. (kjv) Mar 8:11 The Pharisees came out and began to argue with Him, seeking from Him a sign from heaven, to test Him.
Mar 8:12 And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek after a sign? verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation. (kjv) Mar 8:12 Sighing deeply in His spirit, He said," Why does this generation seek for a sign? Truly I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation."
Mar 8:13 And he left them, and entering into the ship again departed to the other side. (kjv) Mar 8:13 Leaving them, He again embarked and went away to the other side.
Mar 8:14 Now the disciples had forgotten to take bread, neither had they in the ship with them more than one loaf. (kjv) Mar 8:14 And they had forgotten to take bread, and did not have more than one loaf in the boat with them.
Mar 8:15 And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod. (kjv) Mar 8:15 And He was giving orders to them, saying," Watch out! Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod."
Mar 8:16 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have no bread. (kjv) Mar 8:16 They began to discuss with one another the fact that they had no bread.
Mar 8:17 And when Jesus knew it, he saith unto them, Why reason ye, because ye have no bread? perceive ye not yet, neither understand? have ye your heart yet hardened? (kjv) Mar 8:17 And Jesus, aware of this, said to them," Why do you discuss the fact that you have no bread? Do you not yet see or understand? Do you have a hardened heart? Mar|8|17|καὶ γνοὺς λέγει αὐτοῖς, τί διαλογίζεσθε ὅτι ἄρτους οὐκ ἔχετε; οὔπω νοεῖτε οὐδὲ συνίετε; πεπωρωμένην ἔχετε τὴν καρδίαν ὑμῶν;
Mar 8:18 Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember? (kjv) Mar 8:18 Having eyes, do you not see? And having ears, do you not hear? And do you not remember, Mar|8|18|ὀφθαλμοὺς ἔχοντες οὐ βλέπετε καὶ ὦτα ἔχοντες οὐκ ἀκούετε; καὶ οὐ μνημονεύετε,
Mar 8:19 When I brake the five loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? They say unto him, Twelve. (kjv) Mar 8:19 when I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces you picked up?" They said to Him," Twelve."
Mar 8:20 And when the seven among four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? And they said, Seven. (kjv) Mar 8:20 "When I broke the seven for the four thousand, how many large baskets full of broken pieces did you pick up?" And they said to Him," Seven."
Mar 8:21 And he said unto them, How is it that ye do not understand? (kjv) Mar 8:21 And He was saying to them," Do you not yet understand?" Mar|8|21|καὶ ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς, οὔπω συνίετε;
Mar 8:22 And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him. (kjv) Mar 8:22 And they came to Bethsaida. And they brought a blind man to Jesus and implored Him to touch him.
Mar 8:23 And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought. (kjv) Mar 8:23 Taking the blind man by the hand, He brought him out of the village; and after spitting on his eyes and laying His hands on him, He asked him," Do you see anything?" Mar|8|23|καὶ ἐπιλαβόμενος τῆς χειρὸς τοῦ τυφλοῦ ἐξήνεγκεν αὐτὸν ἔξω τῆς κώμης, καὶ πτύσας εἰς τὰ ὄμματα αὐτοῦ, ἐπιθεὶς τὰς χεῖρας αὐτῶ, ἐπηρώτα αὐτόν, εἴ τι βλέπεις;
Mar 8:24 And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking. (kjv) Mar 8:24 And he looked up and said," I see men, for I see them like trees, walking around."
Mar 8:25 After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly. (kjv) Mar 8:25 Then again He laid His hands on his eyes; and he looked intently and was restored, and began to see everything clearly.
Mar 8:26 And he sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any in the town. (kjv) Mar 8:26 And He sent him to his home, saying," Do not even enter the village."
Mar 8:27 And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the towns of Caesarea Philippi: and by the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Whom do men say that I am? (kjv) Mar 8:27 Jesus went out, along with His disciples, to the villages of Caesarea Philippi; and on the way He questioned His disciples, saying to them," Who do people say that I am?" Mar|8|27|καὶ ἐξῆλθεν ὁ ἰησοῦς καὶ οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ εἰς τὰς κώμας καισαρείας τῆς φιλίππου· καὶ ἐν τῇ ὁδῶ ἐπηρώτα τοὺς μαθητὰς αὐτοῦ λέγων αὐτοῖς, τίνα με λέγουσιν οἱ ἄνθρωποι εἶναι;
Mar 8:28 And they answered, John the Baptist; but some say, Elias; and others, One of the prophets. (kjv) Mar 8:28 They told Him, saying," John the Baptist; and others say Elijah; but others, one of the prophets."
Mar 8:29 And he saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ. (kjv) Mar 8:29 And He continued by questioning them," But who do you say that I am?" Peter answered and said to Him," You are the Christ."
Mar 8:30 And he charged them that they should tell no man of him. (kjv) Mar 8:30 And He warned them to tell no one about Him.
Mar 8:31 And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. (kjv) Mar 8:31 And He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.
Mar 8:32 And he spake that saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him. (kjv) Mar 8:32 And He was stating the matter plainly. And Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him.
Mar 8:33 But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men. (kjv) Mar 8:33 But turning around and seeing His disciples, He rebuked Peter and said," Get behind Me, Satan; for you are not setting your mind on God's interests, but man's."
Mar 8:34 And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. (kjv) Mar 8:34 And He summoned the crowd with His disciples, and said to them," If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me.
Mar 8:35 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it. (kjv) Mar 8:35 For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel's will save it.
Mar 8:36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? (kjv) Mar 8:36 For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul? Mar|8|36|τί γὰρ ὠφελεῖ ἄνθρωπον κερδῆσαι τὸν κόσμον ὅλον καὶ ζημιωθῆναι τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ;
Mar 8:37 Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? (kjv) Mar 8:37 For what will a man give in exchange for his soul? Mar|8|37|τί γὰρ δοῖ ἄνθρωπος ἀντάλλαγμα τῆς ψυχῆς αὐτοῦ;
Mar 8:38 Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.(kjv) Mar 8:38 For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels."
Mar 9:1 And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power. (kjv) Mar 9:1 And Jesus was saying to them," Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God after it has come with power."
Mar 9:2 And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them. (kjv) Mar 9:2 Six days later, Jesus took with Him Peter and James and John, and brought them up on a high mountain by themselves. And He was transfigured before them; Mar|9|2|καὶ μετὰ ἡμέρας ἓξ παραλαμβάνει ὁ ἰησοῦς τὸν πέτρον καὶ τὸν ἰάκωβον καὶ τὸν ἰωάννην, καὶ ἀναφέρει αὐτοὺς εἰς ὄρος ὑψηλὸν κατ᾽ ἰδίαν μόνους.
Mar 9:3 And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them. (kjv) Mar 9:3 and His garments became radiant and exceedingly white, as no launderer on earth can whiten them.
Mar 9:4 And there appeared unto them Elias with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus. (kjv) Mar 9:4 Elijah appeared to them along with Moses; and they were talking with Jesus.
Mar 9:5 And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. (kjv) Mar 9:5 Peter said to Jesus," Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; let us make three tabernacles, one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah."
Mar 9:6 For he wist not what to say; for they were sore afraid. (kjv) Mar 9:6 For he did not know what to answer; for they became terrified.
Mar 9:7 And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him. (kjv) Mar 9:7 Then a cloud formed, overshadowing them, and a voice came out of the cloud," This is My beloved Son, listen to Him!"
Mar 9:8 And suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no man any more, save Jesus only with themselves. (kjv) Mar 9:8 All at once they looked around and saw no one with them anymore, except Jesus alone.
Mar 9:9 And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of man were risen from the dead. (kjv) Mar 9:9 As they were coming down from the mountain, He gave them orders not to relate to anyone what they had seen, until the Son of Man rose from the dead.
Mar 9:10 And they kept that saying with themselves, questioning one with another what the rising from the dead should mean. (kjv) Mar 9:10 They seized upon that statement, discussing with one another what rising from the dead meant.
Mar 9:11 And they asked him, saying, Why say the scribes that Elias must first come? (kjv) Mar 9:11 They asked Him, saying," Why is it that the scribes say that Elijah must come first?" Mar|9|11|καὶ ἐπηρώτων αὐτὸν λέγοντες, ὅτι λέγουσιν οἱ γραμματεῖς ὅτι ἠλίαν δεῖ ἐλθεῖν πρῶτον;
Mar 9:12 And he answered and told them, Elias verily cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be set at nought. (kjv) Mar 9:12 And He said to them," Elijah does first come and restore all things. And yet how is it written of the Son of Man that He will suffer many things and be treated with contempt? Mar|9|12|ὁ δὲ ἔφη αὐτοῖς, ἠλίας μὲν ἐλθὼν πρῶτον ἀποκαθιστάνει πάντα, καὶ πῶς γέγραπται ἐπὶ τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἵνα πολλὰ πάθῃ καὶ ἐξουδενηθῇ;
Mar 9:13 But I say unto you, That Elias is indeed come, and they have done unto him whatsoever they listed, as it is written of him. (kjv) Mar 9:13 But I say to you that Elijah has indeed come, and they did to him whatever they wished, just as it is written of him."
Mar 9:14 And when he came to his disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and the scribes questioning with them. (kjv) Mar 9:14 When they came back to the disciples, they saw a large crowd around them, and some scribes arguing with them.
Mar 9:15 And straightway all the people, when they beheld him, were greatly amazed, and running to him saluted him. (kjv) Mar 9:15 Immediately, when the entire crowd saw Him, they were amazed and began running up to greet Him.
Mar 9:16 And he asked the scribes, What question ye with them? (kjv) Mar 9:16 And He asked them," What are you discussing with them?" Mar|9|16|καὶ ἐπηρώτησεν αὐτούς, τί συζητεῖτε πρὸς αὐτούς;
Mar 9:17 And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit; (kjv) Mar 9:17 And one of the crowd answered Him," Teacher, I brought You my son, possessed with a spirit which makes him mute; Mar|9|17|καὶ ἀπεκρίθη αὐτῶ εἷς ἐκ τοῦ ὄχλου, διδάσκαλε, ἤνεγκα τὸν υἱόν μου πρὸς σέ, ἔχοντα πνεῦμα ἄλαλον·
Mar 9:18 And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not. (kjv) Mar 9:18 and whenever it seizes him, it slams him to the ground and he foams at the mouth, and grinds his teeth and stiffens out. I told Your disciples to cast it out, and they could not do it."
Mar 9:19 He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me. (kjv) Mar 9:19 And He answered them and said," O unbelieving generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring him to Me!"
Mar 9:20 And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming. (kjv) Mar 9:20 They brought the boy to Him. When he saw Him, immediately the spirit threw him into a convulsion, and falling to the ground, he began rolling around and foaming at the mouth.
Mar 9:21 And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child. (kjv) Mar 9:21 And He asked his father," How long has this been happening to him?" And he said," From childhood.
Mar 9:22 And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us. (kjv) Mar 9:22 It has often thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, take pity on us and help us!"
