Day 291 - Mark 12-13
Mar 12:1 And he began to speak unto them by parables. A certain man planted a vineyard, and set an hedge about it, and digged a place for the winefat, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country. (kjv) Mar 12:1 And He began to speak to them in parables." A man planted a vineyard and put a wall around it, and dug a vat under the wine press and built a tower, and rented it out to vine-growers and went on a journey.
Mar 12:2 And at the season he sent to the husbandmen a servant, that he might receive from the husbandmen of the fruit of the vineyard. (kjv) Mar 12:2 At the harvest time he sent a slave to the vine-growers, in order to receive some of the produce of the vineyard from the vine-growers.
Mar 12:3 And they caught him, and beat him, and sent him away empty. (kjv) Mar 12:3 They took him, and beat him and sent him away empty-handed.
Mar 12:4 And again he sent unto them another servant; and at him they cast stones, and wounded him in the head, and sent him away shamefully handled. (kjv) Mar 12:4 Again he sent them another slave, and they wounded him in the head, and treated him shamefully.
Mar 12:5 And again he sent another; and him they killed, and many others; beating some, and killing some. (kjv) Mar 12:5 And he sent another, and that one they killed; and so with many others, beating some and killing others.
Mar 12:6 Having yet therefore one son, his wellbeloved, he sent him also last unto them, saying, They will reverence my son. (kjv) Mar 12:6 He had one more to send, a beloved son; he sent him last of all to them, saying, 'They will respect my son.
Mar 12:7 But those husbandmen said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance shall be our's. (kjv) Mar 12:7 But those vine-growers said to one another, 'This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours!
Mar 12:8 And they took him, and killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard. (kjv) Mar 12:8 They took him, and killed him and threw him out of the vineyard.
Mar 12:9 What shall therefore the lord of the vineyard do? he will come and destroy the husbandmen, and will give the vineyard unto others. (kjv) Mar 12:9 What will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy the vine-growers, and will give the vineyard to others.
Mar 12:10 And have ye not read this scripture; The stone which the builders rejected is become the head of the corner: (kjv) Mar 12:10 Have you not even read this Scripture: 'The stone which the builders rejected, This became the chief corner stone; Mar|12|10|οὐδὲ τὴν γραφὴν ταύτην ἀνέγνωτε, λίθον ὃν ἀπεδοκίμασαν οἱ οἰκοδομοῦντες, οὖτος ἐγενήθη εἰς κεφαλὴν γωνίας·
Mar 12:11 This was the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes? (kjv) Mar 12:11 This came about from the Lord, And it is marvelous in our eyes'?" Mar|12|11|παρὰ κυρίου ἐγένετο αὕτη, καὶ ἔστιν θαυμαστὴ ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς ἡμῶν;
Mar 12:12 And they sought to lay hold on him, but feared the people: for they knew that he had spoken the parable against them: and they left him, and went their way. (kjv) Mar 12:12 And they were seeking to seize Him, and yet they feared the people, for they understood that He spoke the parable against them. And so they left Him and went away.
Mar 12:13 And they send unto him certain of the Pharisees and of the Herodians, to catch him in his words. (kjv) Mar 12:13 Then they sent some of the Pharisees and Herodians to Him in order to trap Him in a statement.
Mar 12:14 And when they were come, they say unto him, Master, we know that thou art true, and carest for no man: for thou regardest not the person of men, but teachest the way of God in truth: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not? (kjv) Mar 12:14 They came and said to Him," Teacher, we know that You are truthful and defer to no one; for You are not partial to any, but teach the way of God in truth. Is it lawful to pay a poll-tax to Caesar, or not? Mar|12|14|καὶ ἐλθόντες λέγουσιν αὐτῶ, διδάσκαλε, οἴδαμεν ὅτι ἀληθὴς εἶ καὶ οὐ μέλει σοι περὶ οὐδενός, οὐ γὰρ βλέπεις εἰς πρόσωπον ἀνθρώπων, ἀλλ᾽ ἐπ᾽ ἀληθείας τὴν ὁδὸν τοῦ θεοῦ διδάσκεις· ἔξεστιν δοῦναι κῆνσον καίσαρι ἢ οὔ; δῶμεν ἢ μὴ δῶμεν;
Mar 12:15 Shall we give, or shall we not give? But he, knowing their hypocrisy, said unto them, Why tempt ye me? bring me a penny, that I may see it. (kjv) Mar 12:15 Shall we pay or shall we not pay?" But He, knowing their hypocrisy, said to them," Why are you testing Me? Bring Me a denarius to look at."
Mar 12:16 And they brought it. And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? And they said unto him, Caesar's. (kjv) Mar 12:16 They brought one. And He said to them," Whose likeness and inscription is this?" And they said to Him," Caesar's."
Mar 12:17 And Jesus answering said unto them, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's. And they marvelled at him. (kjv) Mar 12:17 And Jesus said to them," Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." And they were amazed at Him.
Mar 12:18 Then come unto him the Sadducees, which say there is no resurrection; and they asked him, saying, (kjv) Mar 12:18 Some Sadducees (who say that there is no resurrection) came to Jesus, and began questioning Him, saying, Mar|12|18|καὶ ἔρχονται σαδδουκαῖοι πρὸς αὐτόν, οἵτινες λέγουσιν ἀνάστασιν μὴ εἶναι, καὶ ἐπηρώτων αὐτὸν λέγοντες,
Mar 12:19 Master, Moses wrote unto us, If a man's brother die, and leave his wife behind him, and leave no children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother. (kjv) Mar 12:19 "Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man's brother dies and leaves behind a wife and leaves no child, his brother should marry the wife and raise up children to his brother.
Mar 12:20 Now there were seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and dying left no seed. (kjv) Mar 12:20 There were seven brothers; and the first took a wife, and died leaving no children.
Mar 12:21 And the second took her, and died, neither left he any seed: and the third likewise. (kjv) Mar 12:21 The second one married her, and died leaving behind no children; and the third likewise; Mar|12|21|καὶ ὁ δεύτερος ἔλαβεν αὐτήν, καὶ ἀπέθανεν μὴ καταλιπὼν σπέρμα· καὶ ὁ τρίτος ὡσαύτως·
Mar 12:22 And the seven had her, and left no seed: last of all the woman died also. (kjv) Mar 12:22 and so all seven left no children. Last of all the woman died also.
Mar 12:23 In the resurrection therefore, when they shall rise, whose wife shall she be of them? for the seven had her to wife. (kjv) Mar 12:23 In the resurrection, when they rise again, which one's wife will she be? For all seven had married her."
Mar 12:24 And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God? (kjv) Mar 12:24 Jesus said to them," Is this not the reason you are mistaken, that you do not understand the Scriptures or the power of God? Mar|12|24|ἔφη αὐτοῖς ὁ ἰησοῦς, οὐ διὰ τοῦτο πλανᾶσθε μὴ εἰδότες τὰς γραφὰς μηδὲ τὴν δύναμιν τοῦ θεοῦ;
Mar 12:25 For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven. (kjv) Mar 12:25 For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.
Mar 12:26 And as touching the dead, that they rise: have ye not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spake unto him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? (kjv) Mar 12:26 But regarding the fact that the dead rise again, have you not read in the book of Moses, in the passage about the burning bush, how God spoke to him, saying, 'I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'? Mar|12|26|περὶ δὲ τῶν νεκρῶν ὅτι ἐγείρονται οὐκ ἀνέγνωτε ἐν τῇ βίβλῳ μωϊσέως ἐπὶ τοῦ βάτου πῶς εἶπεν αὐτῶ ὁ θεὸς λέγων, ἐγὼ ὁ θεὸς ἀβραὰμ καὶ [ὁ] θεὸς ἰσαὰκ καὶ [ὁ] θεὸς ἰακώβ;
Mar 12:27 He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: ye therefore do greatly err. (kjv) Mar 12:27 He is not the God of the dead, but of the living; you are greatly mistaken."
Mar 12:28 And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all? (kjv) Mar 12:28 One of the scribes came and heard them arguing, and recognizing that He had answered them well, asked Him," What commandment is the foremost of all?" Mar|12|28|καὶ προσελθὼν εἷς τῶν γραμματέων ἀκούσας αὐτῶν συζητούντων, ἰδὼν ὅτι καλῶς ἀπεκρίθη αὐτοῖς, ἐπηρώτησεν αὐτόν, ποία ἐστὶν ἐντολὴ πρώτη πάντων;
Mar 12:29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: (kjv) Mar 12:29 Jesus answered," The foremost is, 'Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is one Lord; Mar|12|29|ἀπεκρίθη ὁ ἰησοῦς ὅτι πρώτη ἐστίν, ἄκουε, ἰσραήλ, κύριος ὁ θεὸς ἡμῶν κύριος εἷς ἐστιν,
Mar 12:30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. (kjv) Mar 12:30 and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.
Mar 12:31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. (kjv) Mar 12:31 The second is this, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 'There is no other commandment greater than these."
Mar 12:32 And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he: (kjv) Mar 12:32 The scribe said to Him," Right, Teacher; You have truly stated that He is One, and there is no one else besides Him; Mar|12|32|καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῶ ὁ γραμματεύς, καλῶς, διδάσκαλε, ἐπ᾽ ἀληθείας εἶπες ὅτι εἷς ἐστιν καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν ἄλλος πλὴν αὐτοῦ·
Mar 12:33 And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices. (kjv) Mar 12:33 and to love Him with all the heart and with all the understanding and with all the strength, and to love one's neighbor as himself, is much more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices."
Mar 12:34 And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question. (kjv) Mar 12:34 When Jesus saw that he had answered intelligently, He said to him," You are not far from the kingdom of God." After that, no one would venture to ask Him any more questions.
Mar 12:35 And Jesus answered and said, while he taught in the temple, How say the scribes that Christ is the son of David? (kjv) Mar 12:35 And Jesus began to say, as He taught in the temple," How is it that the scribes say that the Christ is the son of David? Mar|12|35|καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ ἰησοῦς ἔλεγεν διδάσκων ἐν τῶ ἱερῶ, πῶς λέγουσιν οἱ γραμματεῖς ὅτι ὁ χριστὸς υἱὸς δαυίδ ἐστιν;
Mar 12:36 For David himself said by the Holy Ghost, The LORD said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool. (kjv) Mar 12:36 David himself said in the Holy Spirit, 'The Lord said to my Lord," Sit at My right hand, Until I put Your enemies beneath Your feet."'
Mar 12:37 David therefore himself calleth him Lord; and whence is he then his son? And the common people heard him gladly. (kjv) Mar 12:37 David himself calls Him 'Lord'; so in what sense is He his son?" And the large crowd enjoyed listening to Him.
Mar 12:38 And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the marketplaces, (kjv) Mar 12:38 In His teaching He was saying." Mar 12:43 And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury: (kjv) Mar 12:43 Calling His disciples to Him, He said to them," Truly I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the contributors to the treasury; Mar|12|43|καὶ προσκαλεσάμενος τοὺς μαθητὰς αὐτοῦ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι ἡ χήρα αὕτη ἡ πτωχὴ πλεῖον πάντων ἔβαλεν τῶν βαλλόντων εἰς τὸ γαζοφυλάκιον·
Mar 12:44 For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.(kjv) Mar 12:44 for they all put in out of their surplus, but she, out of her poverty, put in all she owned, all she had to live on." (kjv) Mar 13:2 And Jesus said to him," Do you see these great buildings? Not one stone will be left upon another which will not be torn down."
Mar 13:3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives over against the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately, (kjv) Mar 13:3 As He was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew were questioning Him privately, Mar|13|3|καὶ καθημένου αὐτοῦ εἰς τὸ ὄρος τῶν ἐλαιῶν κατέναντι τοῦ ἱεροῦ ἐπηρώτα αὐτὸν κατ᾽ ἰδίαν πέτρος καὶ ἰάκωβος καὶ ἰωάννης καὶ ἀνδρέας,
Mar 13:4 Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign when all these things shall be fulfilled?
