Day - 317 - Acts 6-7
Act 6:1 And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration. Act 6:1 Now at this time while the disciples were increasing in number, a complaint arose on the part of the Hellenistic Jews against the native Hebrews, because their widows were being overlooked in the daily serving of food. Act|6|1|ἐν δὲ ταῖς ἡμέραις ταύταις πληθυνόντων τῶν μαθητῶν ἐγένετο γογγυσμὸς τῶν ἑλληνιστῶν πρὸς τοὺς ἑβραίους, ὅτι παρεθεωροῦντο ἐν τῇ διακονίᾳ τῇ καθημερινῇ αἱ χῆραι αὐτῶν.
Act 6:2 Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables. Act 6:2 So the twelve summoned the congregation of the disciples and said," It is not desirable for us to neglect the word of God in order to serve tables. Act|6|2|προσκαλεσάμενοι δὲ οἱ δώδεκα τὸ πλῆθος τῶν μαθητῶν εἶπαν, οὐκ ἀρεστόν ἐστιν ἡμᾶς καταλείψαντας τὸν λόγον τοῦ θεοῦ διακονεῖν τραπέζαις·
Act 6:3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. Act 6:3 Therefore, brethren, select from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may put in charge of this task. Act|6|3|ἐπισκέψασθε δέ, ἀδελφοί, ἄνδρας ἐξ ὑμῶν μαρτυρουμένους ἑπτὰ πλήρεις πνεύματος καὶ σοφίας, οὓς καταστήσομεν ἐπὶ τῆς χρείας ταύτης·
Act 6:4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word. Act 6:4 But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word." Act|6|4|ἡμεῖς δὲ τῇ προσευχῇ καὶ τῇ διακονίᾳ τοῦ λόγου προσκαρτερήσομεν.
Act 6:5 And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch: Act 6:5 The statement found approval with the whole congregation; and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas and Nicolas, a proselyte from Antioch. Act 6:6 Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them. Act 6:6 And these they brought before the apostles; and after praying, they laid their hands on them. Act|6|6|οὓς ἔστησαν ἐνώπιον τῶν ἀποστόλων, καὶ προσευξάμενοι ἐπέθηκαν αὐτοῖς τὰς χεῖρας.
Act 6:7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith. Act 6:7 The word of God kept on spreading; and the number of the disciples continued to increase greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests were becoming obedient to the faith. Act 6:8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people. Act 6:8 And Stephen, full of grace and power, was performing great wonders and signs among the people. Act|6|8|στέφανος δὲ πλήρης χάριτος καὶ δυνάμεως ἐποίει τέρατα καὶ σημεῖα μεγάλα ἐν τῶ λαῶ.
Act 6:9 Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen. Act 6:9 But some men from what was called the Synagogue of the Freedmen, including both Cyrenians and Alexandrians, and some from Cilicia and Asia, rose up and argued with Stephen. Act|6|9|ἀνέστησαν δέ τινες τῶν ἐκ τῆς συναγωγῆς τῆς λεγομένης λιβερτίνων καὶ κυρηναίων καὶ ἀλεξανδρέων καὶ τῶν ἀπὸ κιλικίας καὶ ἀσίας συζητοῦντες τῶ στεφάνῳ,
Act 6:10 And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake. Act 6:10 But they were unable to cope with the wisdom and the Spirit with which he was speaking. Act|6|10|καὶ οὐκ ἴσχυον ἀντιστῆναι τῇ σοφίᾳ καὶ τῶ πνεύματι ᾧ ἐλάλει.
Act 6:11 Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God. Act 6:11 Then they secretly induced men to say," We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and against God." Act|6|11|τότε ὑπέβαλον ἄνδρας λέγοντας ὅτι ἀκηκόαμεν αὐτοῦ λαλοῦντος ῥήματα βλάσφημα εἰς μωϊσῆν καὶ τὸν θεόν·
Act 6:12 And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council, Act 6:12 And they stirred up the people, the elders and the scribes, and they came up to him and dragged him away and brought him before the Council. Act|6|12|συνεκίνησάν τε τὸν λαὸν καὶ τοὺς πρεσβυτέρους καὶ τοὺς γραμματεῖς, καὶ ἐπιστάντες συνήρπασαν αὐτὸν καὶ ἤγαγον εἰς τὸ συνέδριον,
Act 6:13 And set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law: Act 6:13 They put forward false witnesses who said," This man incessantly speaks against this holy place and the Law; Act|6|13|ἔστησάν τε μάρτυρας ψευδεῖς λέγοντας, ὁ ἄνθρωπος οὖτος οὐ παύεται λαλῶν ῥήματα κατὰ τοῦ τόπου τοῦ ἁγίου [τούτου] καὶ τοῦ νόμου·
Act 6:14 For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered us. Act 6:14 for we have heard him say that this Nazarene, Jesus, will destroy this place and alter the customs which Moses handed down to us." Act|6|14|ἀκηκόαμεν γὰρ αὐτοῦ λέγοντος ὅτι ἰησοῦς ὁ ναζωραῖος οὖτος καταλύσει τὸν τόπον τοῦτον καὶ ἀλλάξει τὰ ἔθη ἃ παρέδωκεν ἡμῖν μωϊσῆς.
Act 6:15 And all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel. Act 6:15 And fixing their gaze on him, all who were sitting in the Council saw his face like the face of an angel. Act|6|15|καὶ ἀτενίσαντες εἰς αὐτὸν πάντες οἱ καθεζόμενοι ἐν τῶ συνεδρίῳ εἶδον τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ ὡσεὶ πρόσωπον ἀγγέλου.
Act 7:1 Then said the high priest, Are these things so? Act 7:1 The high priest said," Are these things so?" Act|7|1|εἶπεν δὲ ὁ ἀρχιερεύς, εἰ ταῦτα οὕτως ἔχει;
Act 7:2 And he said, Men, brethren, and fathers, hearken; The God of glory appeared unto our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charran, Act 7:2 And he said," Hear me, brethren and fathers! The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia, before he lived in Haran, Act|7|2|ὁ δὲ ἔφη, ἄνδρες ἀδελφοὶ καὶ πατέρες, ἀκούσατε. ὁ θεὸς τῆς δόξης ὤφθη τῶ πατρὶ ἡμῶν ἀβραὰμ ὄντι ἐν τῇ μεσοποταμίᾳ πρὶν ἢ κατοικῆσαι αὐτὸν ἐν χαρράν,
Act 7:3 And said unto him, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and come into the land which I shall shew thee. Act 7:3 and said to him, 'Leave your country and your relatives, and come into the land that I will show you. ' Act|7|3|καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτόν, ἔξελθε ἐκ τῆς γῆς σου καὶ [ἐκ] τῆς συγγενείας σου, καὶ δεῦρο εἰς τὴν γῆν ἣν ἄν σοι δείξω.
Act 7:4 Then came he out of the land of the Chaldaeans, and dwelt in Charran: and from thence, when his father was dead, he removed him into this land, wherein ye now dwell. Act 7:4 Then he left the land of the Chaldeans and settled in Haran. From there, after his father died, God had him move to this country in which you are now living. Act|7|4|τότε ἐξελθὼν ἐκ γῆς χαλδαίων κατῴκησεν ἐν χαρράν. κἀκεῖθεν μετὰ τὸ ἀποθανεῖν τὸν πατέρα αὐτοῦ μετῴκισεν αὐτὸν εἰς τὴν γῆν ταύτην εἰς ἣν ὑμεῖς νῦν κατοικεῖτε,
Act 7:5 And he gave him none inheritance in it, no, not so much as to set his foot on: yet he promised that he would give it to him for a possession, and to his seed after him, when as yet he had no child. Act 7:5 But He gave him no inheritance in it, not even a foot of ground, and yet, even when he had no child, He promised that He would give it to him as a possession, and to his descendants after him. Act|7|5|καὶ οὐκ ἔδωκεν αὐτῶ κληρονομίαν ἐν αὐτῇ οὐδὲ βῆμα ποδός, καὶ ἐπηγγείλατο δοῦναι αὐτῶ εἰς κατάσχεσιν αὐτὴν καὶ τῶ σπέρματι αὐτοῦ μετ᾽ αὐτόν, οὐκ ὄντος αὐτῶ τέκνου.
Act 7:6 And God spake on this wise, That his seed should sojourn in a strange land; and that they should bring them into bondage, and entreat them evil four hundred years. Act 7:6 But God spoke to this effect, that his descendants would be aliens in a foreign land, and that they would be enslaved and mistreated for four hundred years. Act|7|6|ἐλάλησεν δὲ οὕτως ὁ θεὸς ὅτι ἔσται τὸ σπέρμα αὐτοῦ πάροικον ἐν γῇ ἀλλοτρίᾳ, καὶ δουλώσουσιν αὐτὸ καὶ κακώσουσιν ἔτη τετρακόσια·
Act 7:7 And the nation to whom they shall be in bondage will I judge, said God: and after that shall they come forth, and serve me in this place. Act 7:7 'And whatever nation to which they will be in bondage I Myself will judge, 'said God, 'and after that they will come out and serve Me in this place. ' Act|7|7|καὶ τὸ ἔθνος ᾧ ἐὰν δουλεύσουσιν κρινῶ ἐγώ, ὁ θεὸς εἶπεν, καὶ μετὰ ταῦτα ἐξελεύσονται καὶ λατρεύσουσίν μοι ἐν τῶ τόπῳ τούτῳ.
Act 7:8 And he gave him the covenant of circumcision: and so Abraham begat Isaac, and circumcised him the eighth day; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat the twelve patriarchs. Act 7:8 And He gave him the covenant of circumcision; and so Abraham became the father of Isaac, and circumcised him on the eighth day; and Isaac became the father of Jacob, and Jacob of the twelve patriarchs. Act|7|8|καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτῶ διαθήκην περιτομῆς· καὶ οὕτως ἐγέννησεν τὸν ἰσαὰκ καὶ περιέτεμεν αὐτὸν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ ὀγδόῃ, καὶ ἰσαὰκ τὸν ἰακώβ, καὶ ἰακὼβ τοὺς δώδεκα πατριάρχας.
Act 7:9 And the patriarchs, moved with envy, sold Joseph into Egypt: but God was with him, Act 7:9 "The patriarchs became jealous of Joseph and sold him into Egypt. Yet God was with him, Act|7|9|καὶ οἱ πατριάρχαι ζηλώσαντες τὸν ἰωσὴφ ἀπέδοντο εἰς αἴγυπτον· καὶ ἦν ὁ θεὸς μετ᾽ αὐτοῦ,
Act 7:10 And delivered him out of all his afflictions, and gave him favour and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house. Act 7:10 and rescued him from all his afflictions, and granted him favor and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and he made him governor over Egypt and all his household. Act|7|10|καὶ ἐξείλατο αὐτὸν ἐκ πασῶν τῶν θλίψεων αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτῶ χάριν καὶ σοφίαν ἐναντίον φαραὼ βασιλέως αἰγύπτου, καὶ κατέστησεν αὐτὸν ἡγούμενον ἐπ᾽ αἴγυπτον καὶ [ἐφ᾽] ὅλον τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ.
Act 7:11 Now there came a dearth over all the land of Egypt and Chanaan, and great affliction: and our fathers found no sustenance. Act 7:11 "Now a famine came over all Egypt and Canaan, and great affliction with it, and our fathers could find no food. Act|7|11|ἦλθεν δὲ λιμὸς ἐφ᾽ ὅλην τὴν αἴγυπτον καὶ χανάαν καὶ θλῖψις μεγάλη, καὶ οὐχ ηὕρισκον χορτάσματα οἱ πατέρες ἡμῶν.
Act 7:12 But when Jacob heard that there was corn in Egypt, he sent out our fathers first. Act 7:12 But when Jacob heard that there was grain in Egypt, he sent our fathers there the first time. Act|7|12|ἀκούσας δὲ ἰακὼβ ὄντα σιτία εἰς αἴγυπτον ἐξαπέστειλεν τοὺς πατέρας ἡμῶν πρῶτον·
Act 7:13 And at the second time Joseph was made known to his brethren; and Joseph's kindred was made known unto Pharaoh. Act 7:13 On the second visit Joseph made himself known to his brothers, and Joseph's family was disclosed to Pharaoh. Act|7|13|καὶ ἐν τῶ δευτέρῳ ἀνεγνωρίσθη ἰωσὴφ τοῖς ἀδελφοῖς αὐτοῦ, καὶ φανερὸν ἐγένετο τῶ φαραὼ τὸ γένος [τοῦ] ἰωσήφ.
Act 7:14 Then sent Joseph, and called his father Jacob to him, and all his kindred, threescore and fifteen souls. Act 7:14 Then Joseph sent word and invited Jacob his father and all his relatives to come to him, seventy-five persons in all. Act|7|14|ἀποστείλας δὲ ἰωσὴφ μετεκαλέσατο ἰακὼβ τὸν πατέρα αὐτοῦ καὶ πᾶσαν τὴν συγγένειαν ἐν ψυχαῖς ἑβδομήκοντα πέντε,
Act 7:15 So Jacob went down into Egypt, and died, he, and our fathers, Act 7:15 And Jacob went down to Egypt and there he and our fathers died. Act|7|15|καὶ κατέβη ἰακὼβ εἰς αἴγυπτον. καὶ ἐτελεύτησεν αὐτὸς καὶ οἱ πατέρες ἡμῶν,
Act 7:16 And were carried over into Sychem, and laid in the sepulchre that Abraham bought for a sum of money of the sons of Emmor the father of Sychem. Act 7:16 From there they were removed to Shechem and laid in the tomb which Abraham had purchased for a sum of money from the sons of Hamor in Shechem. Act|7|16|καὶ μετετέθησαν εἰς συχὲμ καὶ ἐτέθησαν ἐν τῶ μνήματι ᾧ ὠνήσατο ἀβραὰμ τιμῆς ἀργυρίου παρὰ τῶν υἱῶν ἑμμὼρ ἐν συχέμ.
Act 7:17 But when the time of the promise drew nigh, which God had sworn to Abraham, the people grew and multiplied in Egypt, Act 7:17 "But as the time of the promise was approaching which God had assured to Abraham, the people increased and multiplied in Egypt, Act|7|17|καθὼς δὲ ἤγγιζεν ὁ χρόνος τῆς ἐπαγγελίας ἧς ὡμολόγησεν ὁ θεὸς τῶ ἀβραάμ, ηὔξησεν ὁ λαὸς καὶ ἐπληθύνθη ἐν αἰγύπτῳ,
Act 7:18 Till another king arose, which knew not Joseph. Act 7:18 until there arose another king over Egypt who knew nothing about Joseph. Act|7|18|ἄχρι οὖ ἀνέστη βασιλεὺς ἕτερος [ἐπ᾽ αἴγυπτον] ὃς οὐκ ᾔδει τὸν ἰωσήφ.
Act 7:19 The same dealt subtilly with our kindred, and evil entreated our fathers, so that they cast out their young children, to the end they might not live. Act 7:19 It was he who took shrewd advantage of our race and mistreated our fathers so that they would expose their infants and they would not survive. Act|7|19|οὖτος κατασοφισάμενος τὸ γένος ἡμῶν ἐκάκωσεν τοὺς πατέρας [ἡμῶν] τοῦ ποιεῖν τὰ βρέφη ἔκθετα αὐτῶν εἰς τὸ μὴ ζῳογονεῖσθαι.
Act 7:20 In which time Moses was born, and was exceeding fair, and nourished up in his father's house three months: Act 7:20 It was at this time that Moses was born; and he was lovely in the sight of God, and he was nurtured three months in his father's home. Act|7|20|ἐν ᾧ καιρῶ ἐγεννήθη μωϊσῆς, καὶ ἦν ἀστεῖος τῶ θεῶ· ὃς ἀνετράφη μῆνας τρεῖς ἐν τῶ οἴκῳ τοῦ πατρός·
Act 7:21 And when he was cast out, Pharaoh's daughter took him up, and nourished him for her own son. Act 7:21 And after he had been set outside, Pharaoh's daughter took him away and nurtured him as her own son. Act|7|21|ἐκτεθέντος δὲ αὐτοῦ ἀνείλατο αὐτὸν ἡ θυγάτηρ φαραὼ καὶ ἀνεθρέψατο αὐτὸν ἑαυτῇ εἰς υἱόν.
Act 7:22 And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and in deeds. Act 7:22 Moses was educated in all the learning of the Egyptians, and he was a man of power in words and deeds. Act|7|22|καὶ ἐπαιδεύθη μωϊσῆς [ἐν] πάσῃ σοφίᾳ αἰγυπτίων, ἦν δὲ δυνατὸς ἐν λόγοις καὶ ἔργοις αὐτοῦ.
Act 7:23 And when he was full forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brethren the children of Israel. Act 7:23 But when he was approaching the age of forty, it entered his mind to visit his brethren, the sons of Israel. Act|7|23|ὡς δὲ ἐπληροῦτο αὐτῶ τεσσερακονταετὴς χρόνος, ἀνέβη ἐπὶ τὴν καρδίαν αὐτοῦ ἐπισκέψασθαι τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς αὐτοῦ τοὺς υἱοὺς ἰσραήλ.
Act 7:24 And seeing one of them suffer wrong, he defended him, and avenged him that was oppressed, and smote the Egyptian: Act 7:24 And when he saw one of them being treated unjustly, he defended him and took vengeance for the oppressed by striking down the Egyptian. Act|7|24|καὶ ἰδών τινα ἀδικούμενον ἠμύνατο καὶ ἐποίησεν ἐκδίκησιν τῶ καταπονουμένῳ πατάξας τὸν αἰγύπτιον.
Act 7:25 For he supposed his brethren would have understood how that God by his hand would deliver them: but they understood not. Act 7:25 And he supposed that his brethren understood that God was granting them deliverance through him, but they did not understand. Act|7|25|ἐνόμιζεν δὲ συνιέναι τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς [αὐτοῦ] ὅτι ὁ θεὸς διὰ χειρὸς αὐτοῦ δίδωσιν σωτηρίαν αὐτοῖς, οἱ δὲ οὐ συνῆκαν.
Act 7:26 And the next day he shewed himself unto them as they strove, and would have set them at one again, saying, Sirs, ye are brethren; why do ye wrong one to another? Act 7:26 On the following day he appeared to them as they were fighting together, and he tried to reconcile them in peace, saying, 'Men, you are brethren, why do you injure one another? ' Act|7|26|τῇ τε ἐπιούσῃ ἡμέρᾳ ὤφθη αὐτοῖς μαχομένοις καὶ συνήλλασσεν αὐτοὺς εἰς εἰρήνην εἰπών, ἄνδρες, ἀδελφοί ἐστε· ἱνατί ἀδικεῖτε ἀλλήλους;
Act 7:27 But he that did his neighbour wrong thrust him away, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge over us? Act 7:27 But the one who was injuring his neighbor pushed him away, saying, 'Who made you a ruler and judge over us? Act|7|27|ὁ δὲ ἀδικῶν τὸν πλησίον ἀπώσατο αὐτὸν εἰπών, τίς σε κατέστησεν ἄρχοντα καὶ δικαστὴν ἐφ᾽ ἡμῶν;
Act 7:28 Wilt thou kill me, as thou diddest the Egyptian yesterday? Act 7:28 You do not mean to kill me as you killed the Egyptian yesterday, do you? ' Act|7|28|μὴ ἀνελεῖν με σὺ θέλεις ὃν τρόπον ἀνεῖλες ἐχθὲς τὸν αἰγύπτιον;
Act 7:29 Then fled Moses at this saying, and was a stranger in the land of Madian, where he begat two sons. Act 7:29 At this remark, Moses fled and became an alien in the land of Midian, where he became the father of two sons. Act|7|29|ἔφυγεν δὲ μωϊσῆς ἐν τῶ λόγῳ τούτῳ, καὶ ἐγένετο πάροικος ἐν γῇ μαδιάμ, οὖ ἐγέννησεν υἱοὺς δύο.
Act 7:30 And when forty years were expired, there appeared to him in the wilderness of mount Sina an angel of the Lord in a flame of fire in a bush. Act 7:30 "After forty years had passed, an angel appeared to him in the wilderness of Mount Sinai, in the flame of a burning thorn bush. Act|7|30|καὶ πληρωθέντων ἐτῶν τεσσεράκοντα ὤφθη αὐτῶ ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ τοῦ ὄρους σινᾶ ἄγγελος ἐν φλογὶ πυρὸς βάτου.
Act 7:31 When Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight: and as he drew near to behold it, the voice of the LORD came unto him, Act 7:31 When Moses saw it, he marveled at the sight; and as he approached to look more closely, there came the voice of the Lord: Act|7|31|ὁ δὲ μωϊσῆς ἰδὼν ἐθαύμαζεν τὸ ὅραμα· προσερχομένου δὲ αὐτοῦ κατανοῆσαι ἐγένετο φωνὴ κυρίου,
Act 7:32 Saying, I am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Then Moses trembled, and durst not behold. Act 7:32 'I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham and Isaac and Jacob. 'Moses shook with fear and would not venture to look. Act|7|32|ἐγὼ ὁ θεὸς τῶν πατέρων σου, ὁ θεὸς ἀβραὰμ καὶ ἰσαὰκ καὶ ἰακώβ. ἔντρομος δὲ γενόμενος μωϊσῆς οὐκ ἐτόλμα κατανοῆσαι.
Act 7:33 Then said the Lord to him, Put off thy shoes from thy feet: for the place where thou standest is holy ground.
