I have that combo with 33's...skinny 33's...well, sort of skinny at 10.5" :) It seems to work good. I run 2200rpm or so around 60mph. I sometimes wish it was lower geared as it seems to bog a little on small hills. That is why I installed the lockup disengage switch. I can get it to shift to a little higher rpm to make the hill without automatically downshifting to 3rd. HTH. Robert Salemi wrote: The Brakes upgrades have been covered on the NAXJA site www.naxja.com Moderate improvements come from carbon fiber front pads (performance friction, etc) and Raybestos Pro Stop rear shoes. Also Earls steel braided front hoses are said to reduce stopping distance over 10 feet from 60 MPH (about $60 - not much more than stock rubber ones) The biggest improvement for 94 and earlier XJ's is the upgraded brake booster and master cylinder from 95 and later years (said to be a simple bolt in). ************************************* JimBlair, Seattle,WA '84 J10, '86 Comanche http://homepages.go.com/~carnuck/carnuck.html ************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 2 Dec 2000 07:09:01 EST From: S1120-at-aol.com Subject: Re: xj: Was this you? What are you using for the rear - a D44, and from what donor rig? I bought an F250 D44 front for my 87 xj, but it has an 8-lug pattern, so I haven't done anything with it yet while concentrating on building the 69 Commando. I'm using the D60 from the F250 on the rear and have the hoop welded on for the 4-link system, but am still searching for a matching front D60 that didn't come from a 1-ton dually - much harder to find. I guess I'll eventually go with a rear D44, D60 or Ford 9" on the rear of the xj, but it'll be a long time coming. For some reason Robin seems to think that some of our extra funds should go into silly things like jeeps for all the kids (not a bad thing), adding on to the house and college funds, etc.! The ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 02 Dec 2000 11:35:42 -0500 From: Sean Subject: Re: xj: My topless XJ (WAS: Was this you?) Right now it's at a stall so to speak. Between the rain (and some snow), the temperature, and another project (stripping and refinishing a kitchen set) it's basically the same as it was when I first posted about it. I have a friend picking me up a D70 for the rear from a ford (either an F-350 p/u or an E-350 van) and he's looking for an open knuckle D60 from a Ford for the front.... the front seems tough though. He's finding a load of REALLY OLD D60 fronts... all closed knuckle. So far, all the open-knuckle front 60s I've found are from GM trucks... which have the pig on the passenger side. As much fabrication as I'm needing to do, I'm trying NOT to add cutting and welding axle tubes and buying custom shaftsto my workload I still plan on taking a day trip down to Binghamton to Gary's U-Pull-It to see what they have, but that probably won't be until spring. I'm starting to slowly gather the things I'll need to get the project going in the spring. I'm still saving for a Welder and if things go right, I should have one by late January or early February. I'll be keeping the axles full-width to add a bit of stability to the extra height I'll be adding (probably around 10" or so by the time I'm done). I'm also going to convert the front suspension to leaf spriings. Tires will be either 38s or 40s, with axle gearing somewhere between 5.89 and 6.17 (maybe even a LITTLE lower) I'll be sure to post as I make progress. Ltd XJ - should fit any XJ with the GM type steering column.  Has "Jeep" on the horn button.  Color is tan (beige, sand, camel,  whatever you want to call it)  $25.00 plus shipping    Front passenger POWER bucket seat.  Tan cloth and leather.  has "Limited" embroidered on the front of the backrest.  Motor worked when I removed the seat.  controls are in the seat base... just hook up the power.  The leather does have some "surface cracking" (but no rips) and it needs a good cleaning, but overall it's in good shape.  I would prefer not to ship because it's heavy.  $50.00 plus shipping if you can't pick up    Rear seat-back... (sorry, no seat bottom).  Same color (tan) leather and cloth with "Limited" embroidered in the center.  Same story as front seat... some "surface cracking" and needs a cleaning, but otherwise in great shape... spent most of its life folded down (I used to do DJ work and carried my equipment... rarely any rear seat passengers)  $25.00 plus shipping.    That's all for now... but there will be more as I go through the boxes... and as I begin the dismantling process.  These are the bigger items so far.  All prices are firm... and after a little checking around, I think you'll find the prices are very fair.  If the item is being shipped, it will be sent after payment for the item in full.  Bank checks and postal money orders preferred.... personal checks will be held for clearing.  I also accept MC/VISA through Pay-Pal.  CASH ONLY if you're picking up.    Picking up...... Pick-ups are to be in the area of Albany, NY... or with a little notice, northern Westchester County, NY.  If an item is too large for you to pick up (like maybe the wheels/tires), I can deliver them in the Albany/Schenectady area.    Well, I've taken up enough space now.  I do plan on putting these items on my website as soon as I get a chance, but I only went through my stuff this morning.  If you have any questions about any of the items, please e-mail me back-channel.    Thanks.    Sean B.    Schenectady, NY    sean.bova-at-verizon.net ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 02 Dec 2000 18:52:09 -0800 From: john Subject: xj: the M715 http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/rigs/M715 when looking at these pictures remember that Superdawg has 4" of lift and sits taller than a Wagoneer...
