I can always count on my friends to come up with practical, obtainable, spouse approved changes... ;) The 5.7 / 700r4 setup does have a certain appeal. :) Not sure what your fascination is with twin blowers though? :) Must have something to do with a Rocky Mountain HIGH or something... ;) the 219 may very well be an important component... getting 750hp to the surface will be a formidable challenge... even if the power plant I end up with is lacking 500 or so of those ponies. ;) BTW, anyone want to buy a nice Ultra 10 Clone with a PCI card? I'm gonna have to sell the crown jewel of my workstation fleet to subsidize my engine/trans. :( The Tatung is a 440Mhz with 256M of RAM, the PCI card is a 300Mhz, 64M or 128M, can't remember which... 9gig drive, cd... nic, etc. It cost $6,200 last year... I'll even through in a Sun monitor (only 15") and shipping... I'd like to get $3,000 for it. It's running Solaris 2.7 right now AND Windows 95. I may even have to part with my HP 9000/715 100 with about 208M of RAM running HP-UX 11.0 I was hoping to build a floppy based Linux firewall and have my main server running on the HP while using the Ultra 10 for my workstation and development setup... but I'd rather have a nice engine in Superdawg... anybody have any ideas about the Grand Cherokee's 5.2L? 1993 model year. found one complete with tranny/xfr case wiring, 66,000 miles on it, for $2,800. Seems pricey to me... I think I might be better off bidding on totaled vehicles. john - ------------------------------------------------------ http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - ------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 28 Dec 2000 20:33:01 -0800 From: john Subject: Re: xj: compression test... Superdawg is mobile and probably has had this problem since I've had him, just over a year now... so I can wait. I'd appreciate it if you keep your eyes open for a deal. You've got my numbers Paul. :) I think I'm going to sell the Benz, try to get some sort of a shop built and just keep my eyes open for a driveline. I called Howell Engineering today, the guy I talked to thinks the owner will refund my money. If they do I won't be able to say enough good things about them. I already have been very pleased with the service, advice and product received. Buying directly from Howell is less expensive than through a catalog. Any idea on how good the Grand Cherokee 5.2L's are? Olympic has a '93 with 66,000 miles on it complete with xfr case for $2,800. Seems kind of high to me... shoot, I think that's more than I paid for SuperDawg... ;) can't remember.... problem is I don't have the money until I sell the Benz or my Sun clone workstation/server... :( I'm not brand specific. I just want a low mileage fuel injected engine with an overdrive automatic that will bolt to my transfer case or attach to my driveshafts with minimal effort. Fitz has a 99 Suburban 5.7L for $2k with only 9,000 miles on it, but the tranny is from a 2wd... I really want to get the set matched, fewer headaches... I've had too many headaches during swaps to mess with matching stuff up ever again. :) So your idea of getting it with the transfer case has me agreeing with you. If I find a good deal on a Diesel I'd even consider the trouble of getting it licensed... ;) Of course I think that fuel injection has made gas engines much more practical. :) And of course almost fifty cents a gallon more for Diesel tends to offset the savings in fuel economy... not sure why there is such a difference... remember the days when Diesel was .15 and gas .39? I know you do Paul... ;) (of course they may not have been that price at the same time... rofl... ) The station I worked at in the early '70's had gas at .29/.32... no Diesel... :) later, john - ------------------------------------------------------ http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - ------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 28 Dec 2000 20:36:24 -0800 From: john Subject: xj: Re: engine options? Otherwise all seem happy with them. I'm not ready to pay $2,800 for a '96 GC with 66K on it though... of course I'll think about it for a couple days, decide to do it and it'll be gone... Isn't that the way it works? Or on the other side of the coin, I'll look at 6 Mercedes 300SDs, decide on one, buy it, then decide to sell it and no one will give me what I just paid for it... and I got a decent deal on it compared to the other ones I looked at... which reminds me...
