I can't post the list, I asked him to post it, and he didn't (in the midst of getting the list restarted, I guess). Thanks, - --Rob Okay guys, I think it's time for me to let the Comanche go. I bought it new in Feb. of '89, and I've looked at that dash for many a mile. If it doesn't sell, I may keep it (it's still a good truck), or part it out. But I'd rather sell it as a unit. I'm in Victoria, B.C., Canada. Very close to Seattle (but ferries are involved). The good stuff (as outlined on http://www.bc4x4.com/ryeguy: - 36x12.5" TSL/SX's (~5k miles on them) and a radial MT spare on custom 8" steel rims with extra raised bead surfaces - custom D44's F&R, locked F&R, 4.09 gear ratio (~30k miles on them, but the rear R&P and front ball joints were replaced about 6k miles ago, and the axle shafts and axle U-joints are fresh), disk brakes F&R - custom ~9" lift w/ RE coils up front, custom rear leaf packs with buggy leafs (3/4-liptical) - box bobtailed 10 inches - rack covering cab w/ spare tire mounted up top - dual T-case (~20k miles on it) - 4.5L I-6 stroker (~20k miles on it), bomb-proof motor mounts (mated to an AX-15) - the largest (2-core) radiator Modine makes for the truck - on-board air - dual batteries, I purchased the batteries new in the spring - spare T-case parts, F&R axle shafts, hub assemblies, clutches, and more - new (90 litre) gas tank - custom, strong bumpers - full skid plates, blah blah - whole bunch of other do-dads that are relatively minor - passed a B.C. safety inspection at the end of September of this year The bad stuff: - a fair number of dents - cab is clean for trucks in this area, but the box is in rough shape - but at least it can be replaced easily - it is bolted to the truck frame - it requires premium fuel - the odometer has some 210k miles on it, so the chassis itself isn't new, and with that it does show signs of age - the doors are beginning to sag, heater is stuck on defrost, etc. - efforts have been to keep the drivetrain in great shape, and the "creature comforts" have suffered a bit because of taht Mechanically, the truck is in great shape. I wouldn't think twice about driving it across the continent (other than obviously putting on street tires.) In fact, if I still have it, I will likely be taking the truck to Manitoba in the summer. $5000US takes it away, firm. Sold as-is, buyer's responsibility to deal with registration, licensing, etc. I'll deliver it as far as Seattle or most places in B.C., but beyond that I'll have to think about it ('cause work is real busy right now). At that price, I keep the welder and winches, but the spare parts go. Anyone who has looked into the costs of axles, engine, etc. know that it would cost roughly twice this to duplicate my work and collection of spare parts. So I think it's a good deal for the right person. Why am I doing this? Building a bigger truck. 1987 Chevy Blazer, 472 Cadillac engine (just finished), TH400 trans, dual T-case, Unimog axles, and 44" rubber. The new 4x4 should be rolling for the camping season. I want to keep the winches and welder for the new truck. And I just don't need 2 extreme 4x4's. - --Rob ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 18 Jan 2001 19:04:39 -0400 From: samfans Subject: Re: xj: New Online Parts Source Oh yea ?? Remember the ignition problems I've posted about? Well, they're cured. Turns out somebody had wired in a cutoff switch, and the switch was going bad. Once the switch was removed, the thing started just fine. Now I'm looking at two realistic possibilities for a motor job: 1. Rebuild the 2.5L and use as many hi-po parts as possible (might get 150 hp) 1A. Same as above and fabricate a turbo for more power (could get me over 225 hp) 2. Install a GM HO 3.4L crate motor (About $2k for all parts), not sure what's involved with the motor mounts. Motor is rated for 160 hp. I'd do a carb setup and headers (if available) and aim for 200. I'm wondering which would be more difficult? I have the resources and people to contact regarding the turbo 2.5 idea, and in a way it seems like a neater idea. Seems like a must to do the turbo if I keep the 2.5 for low-end torque reasons. Would my AX-5 bolt up to the 3.4L without major issues? (well the catalog IS kinda cool) I have a Crown parts dealer not far from me... Which reminds me, I have a nearly new Crown front wheel bearing assy for the earlier (84-89) XJ's (and 87-89 YJ's) I want to sell for $50US + shipping (cost ~$100-120 new). Has maybe 2,000 miles on it max! (I have a couple other ones with more miles that I'll let got for $20) Still, nuthin like genuine KaleCo parts! :P~ Paul - --- samfans wrote: > Oh yea ?? > Well - check THIS out....you'll go crazy - I did !! > > http://dirtroad.com/crown.htm > > Bill > > "Paul W." wrote: > > Just discovered this great site the other day - while the list was down. > > It is an absolute must visit site... and it is rare that I would ever make > > such a strong recommendation. Seems like a must to do the turbo if I keep the 2.5 for > low-end torque reasons. #1 would be the easiest and likely the cheapest. #1A would be tough to keep cheap AND still get good low-end. #2 can be done with stock XJ 2.8L mounts & accessories - which should be both cheap and easy to come by. > Would my AX-5 bolt up to the 3.4L without major issues? It will bolt right up, but if you're gonna bump it up to 200 horses, the longevity of the AX-5 is likely to suffer... I'd try to find a T-5 out of a 2.8L XJ for a cheap & easy solution. There are better trannies, but you'll have troubles/extra expenses getting them to mate. Paul Get email at your own domain with Yahoo!
