Here's one way to do this. Check out these aftermarket guages: http://www.spatechnique.com/instruments.html They have programmable warnings that light up a warning light on the guage, but they also have an "output" port on the back that you can connect something to, like a buzzer, that gets activated when the alert hits. I just put a set of these in my truck, and they're great. The only problem is the backlighting is VERY bright and not adjustable (I'm working with SPA on a fix for this), but at least you can turn off the backlighting... you just can't see 'em at night. If I were in your position, I would use a slow charge for 24hrs or so, and then try it again. Also, as for the D30, did you keep the Aluminum shift fork or upgrade to the Steel Dodge one? Aren't those forks a weak point? The Dodge one is supposed to be a direct swap. Darren K. Page Montreal, Qc P.S. My engine started making a worrisome ticking noise today. It's very noticeable at idle and increases with engine speed. Sounds like it's coming from the valve cover, and it didn't go away after the engine got warm. It doesn't sound like knocking, but I have filled up with 87 octane the last two tanks, just to see if I could notice a difference after running 89 the last 9 months. I've got an 4.7L stroker motor with almost 20k miles on it and have been running Mobil 1 for 5k mile intervals. I haven't had anything mechanically go wrong with the motor yet, except for a broken valve spring within the first few hundred miles. Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated! Hey Bill, long time no type! I'm note sure how to post to the digest lately so I'm sending a copy to you. Well there's a couple of things you can try, and I can pass along some wives tails, and a bit of advice, but remember the bottom line is ...the battery will *never* be the same. So the first thing I would do is take it back and get a new one (which should be under full warranty if it's new). Tell 'em that it has plenty of power for starting if you drive it every day, but it looses it's charge after a few days if you don't use it. This is not something they can easily test for and will just give you a new one. You might add that the alternator and starter are also new, but you don't need to *mention* any more than that. Now if you'r up for the challenge trying to get it usable again (knowing it will *never* be the same ;), and if you have a good charger, you can try a high amp blast for a few minutes, let it just start to boil, but don't let it boil over. Now give a few gentle taps from all sides with a rubber mallet, reduce the heat and let it simmer on low for 48 hours (2~5 amps) or 24 hours (8 ~10 amps) making sure it is never low on water. If your charger has an automatic feature go 24 on that. If that doesn't revive it, as a last chance you can try draining the acid out (keep it refrigerated, makes a refreshing drink ;) and fill it with new electrolyte, charge as above (except the boiling part), and cross your fingers. In a day or two you will know if it helped or not, and you'll go for that nice cool drink you saved in the refrigerator, ...it will calm your nerves as you realize it will *never* be the same again! I'd just take it back :-/ Good luck ~~~~~~~ samfans wrote ~~~~~~ > Can you guys help me with a simple question? > > I was installing the new locked D30 - which you can check out at the > link below (mandatory mod content :) ) > > I left it in the garage below freezing for several days with key in > "run" - drained the battery. > > Had to jumpstart to get it going. Would like to know the rating for both but at least the rating for the HO. For those of you who are interested I just got Motion Software's Dyno2000, It's pretty cool it's got a tool in it that lets you set up the motor for maximum torque/HP by setting a range of variables for the bore, stroke, and cam settings. So after 4 hours of calculations :) my 4.8L ended up with 222 HP and 323 ft/lbs. Not sure how accurate the ratings are as I had to guess on the flow, and the cam is completely custom :) Also I am willing to do the simulations for other people if they want, but you'll have to e-mail me back channel to work it out. ===== Rob "Lutin Plunder" Dome; A+, Network+ 1987 Jeep Cherokee Utility Dana30-4.0L-BA10/5-NP231-Dana44 2" lift in front and 2.5" lift in the rear I swear by my life and my love of it that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine - Atlas Shrugged, Ayn Rand Yahoo! I didn't know if it'd work on mine either til I tried it, so guess it's your turn. When I was replacing some gauges on my Suburban though, the dealer asked if it had lights or gauges as it makes a difference on the senders.
