Don't ask Tera to do it, because they won't. You can't just buy the parts and do it yourself...the case has to be machined to get the components to fit properly. Maybe you can pick one of theirs up if they ever get an Atlas T-case John...? :o) Phil - -----Original Message----- From: owner-xj-at-digest.net [mailto:owner-xj-at-digest.net]On Behalf Of john I don't know for sure if they do... Its just that you have to send your case in for machining to fot the 4to1 gearset...I know several people that have the 4to1 kit. Also I hjave heard about the machining...something along the lines that you can do it yourself...but then again I was talking to people with a shop and tools! Most likely it's a vacuum problem or a problem with the levers that move the linkages around. I've found that backing up, even turning the rig off and back on, letting it idle, reving it up and so on may help. Some manuals even state that you need to be moving about 2 to 3 mph for it to work. I've been challenged at times by every xfr case I've ever owned, whether it was an old Dana 20, an NP231, 229, 219, 208, or 242. Even my 99 WJ with Quadradrive doesn't just "pop" into lowrange. The only one I've had real challenges in getting it to switch between modes is my NP242. Most of that trouble was the vacuum lines... after I hit that tree I found that the vacuum lines were leaking in major ways... After I replaced the vacuum module assy it shifted much better. But there were still times it wouldn't come out of 4wd full time and back to 2wd without a wait. Getting into low range in most xfr cases is usually the trickest, and getting out of it can also be a challenge if things are bound up at all. Gentle rolling forward or backward or even turning the wheels side to side while rolling has helped. Most xfr cases go from 2wd to 4wd pretty well, it's when you get fancier that you have to work for it. :) Getting out of 4 low can be a challenge... just move forward and back a little bit, double check your owner's manual, it may say to shift at 2 to 3 mph. Or you could have a vacuum leak. hope this helps, john - --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Nov 2001 22:49:34 +0100 From: Sune Cullberg Subject: Re: xj: decoder ring!
