I am having a problem with my 86 Cherokee. It is a 2.5L with fi and has 220k on it. My problem is a mis when under load. Here is a list of what I have changed. Plugs, cap, rotor, wires, fuel filter. I have also replaced the coil, it looked like it was firing through the case of the coil into the module. The coil helped a lot, but it is still skipping. Any other ideas? I did do a compression check and all looked good, 120-130 psi, dam good for 220k. I don't want to keep throwing parts at it, I would like to go in with a little more info. HELPPPP!!!!! There's no need for a new harness unless yours has been damaged somehow - - just unscrew two torx screws, unplug the harness, clean everything with intake cleaner and put everything back the way you found it. On the 87's thru 92(?), you'll need to make sure the little spring-loaded lever on the new TPS is under the retaining arm on the throttle body. I also thought my coil was arching, not the case. Check the plug that goes to the coil. Both of the wires on mne were corroded and I had to replace the whole plug with a new pig-tail. Also check to make sue your alternator is putting out the right amps. Mine was hesitating alot under load and I found out that the brushes were wearing out in the alt. Hope that helps.
