Use brake cleaner or carb cleaner to remove the oil use a wire brush and rag with cleaner to remove all traces of RTV from both cover and diff housing I always spray out the inside of the diff thoroughly, and allow to drain / evaporate. I use the brake cleaner that is safe on rubber Buy RTV - I prefer the Permatex (made by Loctite) black, but any colour will do for a diff. the Mopar stuff is perfect too lay a 1/8" bead all the way around the diff cover, loop all the way around all the bolt holes. Don't use too much Let it "skin over" for 15-20 minutes Carefuly place it in place, and finger tighten the bolts, don't torque them down and squich it all out. If you have time, allow to sit overnight, then torque them down, refill with 1.5L (approx) of 80W90 Hypoid gear oil. If you don't have time, I've torqued and refilled immediately without a problem. 80W140 can be used too for HD or towing use.
