I have a B&M shifter that has a really cheap switch on it that you run the ingintion through so it won't start in gear. It worked so well that it wouldn't start in Park either. Easy enough to bypass but now I have to pay attention to make sure I am not starting in gear. Of course the little wagoneer got totalled last year... :( >I understand the Cherokees have a stock limited slip mechanism but stops >working after a while. That's true, the clutches wear out pretty quick. One friend "beefed" his up by putting extra discs in the pack and ended up cracking the carrier, or doing something to it that broke it... My plan for my '83 J10 Stepside is to get the True-Trac with electric lockups... :) not sure when they'll be available... Either that or I'll go with an ARB rear locker and the true-trac in the front. >I have a 1987 Cherokee Pioneer and I have a button that reads >comfort/power transmission or something like that. Do you know what that >button controls? That button changes the shift point in the transmission. The comfort mode would make more sense if it said economy, it shifts earlier and locks up the torque converter earlier. Power holds the shifts later and doesn't let the tc lockup until later and drops it out quicker. Running in "comfort" mode gave me 1 mpg more. >How long does the Trac-Lok last? I've heard about 20,000 miles or so... varies... check with a good rear end shop, randy's ring & pinion or reider racing. I've bought stuff from both and both are excellent. >What is the difference between the True Trac and the Trac Lok you're using >(besides the price he he he!!)? The True-Trac is awesome, it's all gears inside, nothing to wear out. It is limited in tire size. The trac lok is a weak limited slip that wears out. Price wise? Well, I'd have to check. I think they're pretty close... within a hundred bucks or so... I think I paid about the same for a Trac Lok I put in my '85 xj as the True-Trac cost about 10 years later... I can't remember the price on the true-trac, but it was less than a locker... I think... man, that was 5 years ago! >I live in Monterrey, NL, Mexico and I have a way to get Trac Loks at the >same price you can get them in the USA, so I trying to get as much >information before convincing myself to buy them. I'd spend a bit more and get the True Tracs, a much better unit, if you're going to only have limited slip with moderate sized tires they are superb. I would recommend getting an Auburn limited slip before the trac-lok. But a trac-lok is better than an open axle... but not by much. :) The True-Trac is NOT a locker, but did perform a LOT better than my Trac-lok. With the true-trac you'd lightly touch the brakes and both tires would spin... it was pretty cool... > >Thanks! >Fermin Hernandez ============================================================= The just shall live by Faith... Heya umm, why would you want to put a 4.2L block in a Cherokee and then a 4.0L head? The 4.0L is a better building point to start out with...unless you mean putting a 4.2L crank into a 4.0L block...which is probabaly the ultimate Jeep inline 6...youll get 4.5L-4.9L depending on your bore size and what you do to the crank. The 4.2 has a good size stroke, but a small bore...like 3.3 inches or something like that. It wouldnt make nearly as much power as a good condition 4.0L and less than a stroker motor. ===== Mahalo Alan Chung 90 Cherokee Limited 4.6L Honolulu, HI Bellingham, WA http://www.ac.wwu.edu/~chunga9/Welcome.html http://www.wwu.edu GO VIKINGS!
