Need to research and document all that's there. Yes, it's a serious racing machine. But it would be completely streetable too. That 351 Cleveland is out of a Pantera! It comes with the blower and carb, so putting it together won't be too bad really... I look at it and think, yeah, I could put this thing on the road in a weekend no sweat. Then I talk to the guy building it and realize that the way it's been built so far is so radically different then what I'm used to that in his mind it's many hours to completion, and mucho bucks. He said he's got thousands of hours of work into this thing already. And it shows... He also mentioned that the car almost set the speed record for a flathead V8... he blew the motor in the process, and I think that's when he got the 351 Cleveland. I didn't put all the pictures up yet until I've got everything sorted out, but even the wiring is labeled... on the wire... and there are redundant circuits, fuses and switches!!! I think we'll try to sell it as is, if it doesn't go then we'll put it together and try again later. I think the value is there and any serious party will quickly recognize where it's at and what it'll take to complete. I wasn't sure until I saw it. After seeing it I'm comfortable with selling it this way. People buying a car like this will either know how to finish it or will have someone do it for them. :) I will take more pictures later showing all the accessories and spare parts. If we can we might roll it out of the shop and take pictures out in the open... but that'll be hard, it's been stored away for some time now. :) This car has three things going for it. It's a nice straight 1950 that has been modified properly, it's got an incredible history in racing, and it's a very popular movie star. john - ------------------------------------------------------------------ http://www.WAGONEERS.com/ Snohomish, WA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... jesus, don't leave life without him, please! - ------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Aug 2002 13:05:01 +0100 From: Billy.Schraub-at-kvaerner.com Subject: RE: xj: Re: Currie steering rod ends? I may have missed some of the post...but Can you guys tell me the difference between the Rusty's steering system which is tie rod to tie rod. I know the Curry system keeps the stock Y design. What are the plusses/deltas to these two...Sorry if I am asking something that is redundant for your guys...Thanks in advance... -----Original Message----- From: Phil [SMTP:ecksjay-at-attbi.com] Sent: Saturday, August 03, 2002 3:42 PM To: xj-at-digest.net Subject: Re: xj: Re: Currie steering rod ends? If Bill's not reading this (he might be on his way here right now) I'll speak for him. He was able to get the draglink through Jeep...and I was actually going to do this before the Rusty's/Currie ordeal. The problem I ran into was that the RHD link was $165!!!!! Start adding parts together and well, we're almost to the cost of a Currie setup. If you can swing the deal on the RHD link, go for it. I really wanted to do that bad instead of spending the money since it moved everything out of the way. Well, I eventually said, "If I can't move it, I'll beef it the Hell up!" :o) Phil ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bob Mock" > Yeah I would much rather something in the $200 neighborhood. Heya Bill, The inverted Y setup that Currie uses is the same configuration as stock, BUT they change angles on the draglink so that everything lies flatter than a stock steering linkage would. I'm at 6.5" up front and with my drop arm I'm closer to 5.5" as far as steering is concerned, but with the Currie stuff on it looks like my stock linkages did at a 2" budget boost. Here are pictures comparing stock vs. Currie that I took. Click on the "Parts!" folder to view them... http://photos.groups.yahoo.com/group/pnwxj/lst Lots of travel and VERY strong! Rusty's design is so close to a YJ steering setup that you might as well save the money and get the YJ stuff. He uses a 1" OD DOM tube that in all honesty doesn't look like it would stand up to even the slightest of beatings... When I had it installed I could grab the middle of the tierod and it would bow with little effort. Sorry, not good enough for me! On top of that, the draglink angle was so steep I had horrible bumpsteer. The tierod ends he uses (CJ-7) were maxed out without even FLEXING the front end at all! If there was any flex at all, the steering wheel turned to help compensate for it. Not acceptable from a $240 steering linkage... If the Currie had been available two months ago I would have had that instead, but this was my "only" option besides using stock linkages. Sure Rusty's is $110-130 less than Currie, but I can't see any advantage to using Rusty's design on a lifted Cherokee. On a stock rig, maybe...but then why spend so much when you can buy Moog replacement parts? ;o) Just my opinions here... Thanks Phil...A picture is worth a thousand words. My mind has been made up, rethought and made up again. While my wife is working on killing the money tree in the back yard, I like to spend money one time to do it right! The extra 100 or so bucks will be well spent with Currie...Thanks again! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 05 Aug 2002 18:22:09 -0700 From: Mirandy Archer Subject: xj: GREAT new tires... I got my Jeep back today. All I can say is "WOW!" If I had known that getting the allignment fixed, new shocks and tires would make such a huge difference (even on dry pavement) I would have done it much sooner. My Mom said that it feels like a whole new vehicle (and only for $700). I also noticed that it feels as if I am higher up off the road then before (I wonder why, hmm), and that my Wag is more powerful now. Definitely worth the money. I can't wait to go out this weekend to really "test it out" on those really awful streets in Spokane (they haven't been "really" fixed since '87 so they are awful!) and see how well it does. M. BTW- thanks for all the help and info! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 05 Aug 2002 22:52:13 -0700 From: john Subject: xj: Re: Halogen lamps high and low For the 1988 Jeep Wagoneer (XJ), with Dual Headlights, the replacement bulbs are: High Beam H4701 Low Beam H4703 :) john meister ============================================================= The just shall live by Faith...
