Good meat, but it was adjusted way off. I lubed up the adjuster & snugged everything up a bit & it should be good to go. Now I'm working on the front end, worn pads & one bad front axle u-joint. May also have some bad wheel bearings in the front hub assembly. Got one other unusual problem I could use some help with. The front end seems to be slightly over to the passenger side of the vehicle. The inside edge of the front coil spring rubs that steel tube w/ rubber pad that runs down through the middle of the spring. It doesn't sit dead center of the spring. Anyone know what I'm poorly describing & what the cause of it would be? It's been causing a weird "scronking" noise everytime the vehicle hits a bump & bottoms out. Can't see anything obviously bent or out of align. Thanks Miah Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful. Affordable. Scene: 85 XJ 2.5, auto w/ Weber carb, new alternator and Optima Red Top, everything else stock. Crime: After trying two batteries, both fully charged, neither started Jeep. It will turn over - sometimes after some wheezing - and will seem like its just going to start and doesn't. At least a quarter tank of gas in tank. Is it fuel pump, fuel filter, or something else? How do I check without taking apart gas tank, and even then, how would I know? (put a cup under it so you don't make a mess). Then check the timing... and spark... if timing jumped one notch, unlikely, it could do that sort of thing to you too. I like Weber carbs... sounds like a nice setup, should be economical to run. :) ...when it runs. ;) Being somewhat lazy I'd pull a plug wire and crank and see if it sparks, use a screwdriver and rest it near the block and watch for the spark while someone cranks... (sun is not your friend now is it? ;) Or, since y'all are blinded by the sun and can't see that nice bright spark find someone you don't like and ask them to hold on to this wire while you check something... ;) spark? ok, now check the fuel. :) If fuel flows and spark sparks then the question is whether or not they have their act together... break out ye olde timing light and test. ttyl, john :) At 11:47 PM 1/20/2003 -0600, Tom Moulder wrote: >Scene: 85 XJ 2.5, auto w/ Weber carb, new alternator and Optima Red Top, >everything else stock. > >Crime: After trying two batteries, both fully charged, neither started >Jeep. Do you have an adjustable trackbar? Some aftermarket lift kits have springs with more coils that tend to cause the spring to curve when compressed or even at static ride height. If you have an adjustable trackbar, has it been adjusted to centralize the axle? If you don't have a lift or an adjustable trackbar, has your trackbar been relocated? You will see extra holes in the trackbar axle bracket if it has. - -Vince- >-----Original Message----- >From: owner-xj-at-digest.net [mailto:owner-xj-at-digest.net]On Behalf Of >Jeremiah Westpfahl >Sent: 21 January 2003 05:33 >To: XJ-List >Subject: xj: On going XJ issues > > >Ok folks, I pulled the rear wheels today & looked at >the brakes. I had a couple of buddies help shift my xj's body over to center while installing my adjustable trackbar, but on some of my other xj's, I've just used the steering wheel to move the body over and made the adjustments myself. A while back I had a bunch of questions about it and somebody said I could swap in a 3.1L Chevy engine. It has a manual transmission. The guy said it is a direct bolt on. Is it possible to swap a 4.3L Chevy engine into this xj? Jesse Barbieribarbierij-at-earthlink.netWhy Wait?
