It looks like the front half of the rear flares mount to the door. I have been thinking about doing that for years... They look cool in the Summit Truckstyle catalog, but I havent heard anything about them. Around $360 I think. - --Kurt ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 21 Aug 2003 09:41:19 -0600 From: "Aaron Storms" Subject: xj: Re: Bushwacker fender flares Yep, am running them on my red 88xj winter commuter/mild trail rig and like them a lot. It's fairly important though to run a wider tire/rim combo so that they stick out past the flares, or you'll be hitting the flares on rocks and trees when wheeling and tearing up your fenders like my friend that I bought the flares from...:) Here's a link to my webshots photo site where I have a couple pics in the Storms Jeeps folder. http://community.webshots.com/user/aaronstorms I also used the biggest rivets I could find and small flat washers to help hold them on better. If you MUST have a V8, I'd recommend the 4.7L V8 out of the WJ from '99 and up, and also in some of the dodges... sweet motor. The other option is to build a stroker out of a 4.0L. with only 145k on your 4.0L what are you worried about anyway? my '87 has 245,000 miles on the original engine/trans... I've owned three (or four) other XJs with the 4.0L that has 210, 280, and 230+K on them... Putting a V8 into an XJ can be done, one of the guys on the XJ list put a 350 Chev into his, sweet install too. I might have pix on my server under http://wagoneers.com/XJ/rigs look for Whit or something like that... I'll dig up the pix if they're not there and put 'em up one of these days. :) john On Thu, 21 Aug 2003, Ryan Shaw wrote: Ryan Shaw >-->Hi my name is Ryan >--> >--> I have been doing some research trying to find out if I can put a grand >-->cherokee 5.9 engine into a 90 cherokee? They're not really worth it and most people that do have them usually swap out to a 4.0 anyway. The 4.0 is probably the strongest, most longest lasting motor ever. I had my 4.0 replaced with a Jasper engine at 250,000. Not because it really needed it..there was just some blowby that was fouling the airfilter, but because my mechanic wouldn't work on the engine because it was not worth the money. He said it's my money, but if I insisted on having engine work, I would have to go to another mechanic to have it done, because it would cost me far more than a replacement engine. I've been happy with the Jasper engine and only had one problem. The water pump gasket blew and had to be replaced. This was done in warrantee and was painless. I had as much steel removed as possible and even trimmed the Bushwackers for full flex on 33x12.50R15 on 5"f/5.5"r lift. New inner rear wheel tubs custom made to allow the wheel to stuff. Average of 3" of steel removed from the body side. New flares are bolted on with stainless cap head bolts and washers. Notice the height of the flare compared to the pinstripe. I only have enough steel under the flare for the bolt fixing. The rest is completely cut away and new steel sheet welded in to close up the gaps. http://www.jeepclub.co.uk/photos/1377.jpg Like the rear lights? http://www.jeepclub.co.uk/photos/1121.jpg Yes, it's right hand drive! The door flares clog with mud very easily and get very heavy if left to accumulate. - -Vince- > -----Original Message----- > From: owner-xj-at-digest.net [mailto:owner-xj-at-digest.net]On Behalf Of > KLuebs-at-washgas.com > Sent: 21 August 2003 14:24 > To: xj-at-digest.net > Subject: xj: Bushwacker fender flares > > > Hi, > > Has anyone tried the Bushwacker flares???
