I decided to go ahead and replace the pump while I had it out to replace the gasket. The pump that I purchased from the Dealer was a literal piece of crap. The gasket surface was not machined and had the surface finish of the sand casting mold, much worse than if the metal had been sand blasted. The threads looked like they were sand blasted, definately not machine tapped. It's also noisy at high RPMs. The cyllindrical protrusion that slides into the bore in the block was deformed and didn't even fit: I had to file some 'flashing' off. Cost $77. After installing, I drove to a local parts dealer and took a look at an AC-Delco part. Very nice and only $45! I think I'll try to return the Mopar one though I don't know how successful I'll be. But, I bought the AC-D one anyway and I think I'll put it in for peace of mind. The last time I bought a Mopar Power Steering Pump, it too had noisy bearings and is now leaking with only 25,000 miles on it. Should have learned my lesson then. When is Mopar the best choice and when do you go elsewhere? - -- Loeb Mechatronics Product Design Engineering Manager Microtech Systems 2 Davis Dr. Belmont, CA 94002 Phone: 650.596.1900 x113 Fax: 650.596.1915 mailto:loeb-at-microtech.com http://www.microtech.com 1977 C-27 #3178 ~ ~ ~ (\_~ ~ ~ "Never doubt that a few committed individuals can change the world.
