I have been looking around and find a great variation of price and kits. I really don't want to block the rear, but I don't plan on a lot of extreme off road so I guess that would work OK. My question is what is the best kit for lifting? Would that be a different choice for on road the majority of the time (thinking of ride quality). Next, what is the largest tire (using stock 15" Wrangler wheels) that will fit? There are several good kits available, with RE being one of the best from what I hear and have experienced. With that much lift, you should easily be able to run31x10.50 mud tires on your stock 15x7 wrangler rims, or ideally an 8" wide rim would be a bit better. It's gotten stiffer, harsher even... still good, but not the superb ride it once was. The '91 XJ I had rode pretty bad... :( I went over to Central 4wd here in Everett and did a "budget" lift. 3" front coils, and an add-a-leaf in the back... it wasn't very expensive, it seems to ride ok and I've got 31's on it with no problems. http://www.wagoneers.com/XJ/rigs/johns-87/87-cherokee-1.jpg I think the OME lift is still an excellent one, but I sold the '91 because it didn't have a good ride, even after putting the lighter duty shocks on it... (the PO had the HD version of the OME shocks on it too...) When I did the lift over at C4wd I bought two new shocks and an adjustable track bar... I'm pretty sure the entire bill including labor was less then $500... if it wasn't, it wasn't much more... The track bar was about $130 if I remember right... the guy at the front end alignment shop was pretty impressed by it. It started clunking a couple months after I installed it, but I haven't had the time or concern to bring it back, probably out of warranty by now... ;( but no death wobble... so if I get another one it'll be the same kind... john Derek Allison wrote: > Rubicon express and Rusty's offroad in my opinion are the best qualtiy > or check out rocky-road.com. Elliott Subject: Re: xj: XJ lift I wouldn't mess with Rocky Road Outfitters if you can avoid it... I'm not much for vendor bashing, but they have major Quality assurance/Customer Service issues. You can get OME lifts from Dirk at DPGoffroad.com or Dora at Adventue4wd.com (as well as a number of other vendors). Both of whom will give you excellent service and prices. Its important to remember that OME suspensions are sold as parts and not as a kit. It's up to the vendor to help you put together a kit thats right for you. Also, if your XJ is more than 5 years old I would make sure to replace the rear springs altogether as opposed to trying to save money with blocks or "Add-a-leafs". Good luck! - -Dave On Oct 29, 2003, at 10:50 AM, Derek Allison wrote: > Rubicon express and Rusty's offroad in my opinion are the best qualtiy > or check out rocky-road.com.
