If I don't care I'll go with major brands, but avoid pennzoil, valvoline and quaker state, have had trouble with them in the past... used to use castrol but they had some trouble a few years ago, they may have it resolved now... >Are you consistant with what brand of oil filter you use? > > pretty much, use the amsoil or hastings >Full Synthetic? The only issue is going from petroleum to synthetic. The synthetic tends to clean out deposits and gunk left over from the petroleum oil. Only thing you need to do is change the filter more often. Going back to petroleum from synthetic shouldn't be a problem at all. There used to be an issue with early synthetics leaking more then dino oil because it penetrates and flows more easily, but most modern synthetics have seal swelling agents to minimize that problem. I've seen significant fuel economy gains going from dino oil to amsoil synthetics. My '99 WJ went from 18.3 to 19.6 and then to 21.3 mpg on the same run up and down I-5 (btwn Seattle and Portland). I went to 20w50, then to 5w30. My '87 XJ with 246,000 miles is running amsoil 10w30 and I'm getting 16-17 in town and 20-21mpg on the road... went over Stevens Pass to Leavenworth a couple weeks ago and got almost 20mpg! and that's with 31" tires and a 3" lift! later, john - -- - ------------------------------------------------------------------ john at http://wagoneers.com from Snohomish,WA- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... reminding you not to leave life w/o Jesus! - ------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 26 Nov 2003 09:58:56 -0800 From: john meister Subject: Re: Synthetic oil (was xj: AX-15 Lube?) synthetics provide superior lubrication and thermal range... better shear protection, better protection against oxidation and contamination... won't break down at high temps, flows at cool temps... and since you're paying more, buy the best, amsoil. ;) amsoil was the first in the automotive world, been doing it since 1973! john Mike - G wrote: >Speaking of synths. I have an '87 that has some tears in the front seats. The drivers side seat is also flattened out. It looks like the rear seats will fit, but could someobody confirm this? Also, are there any other seats I can put into my jeep that would make it a little different? I was looking at some eddie bauer seats from a ford explorer. I've had little trouble putting non-standard seats in my FSJ's, but I've never tried in my xj... but am thinking about it as well, my '87 driver's seat is getting tired at 246,000 miles... :) one of the big problems is the seat base is part of the bottom seat cushion, hard to adapt a flat bottom seat onto that... and the floor is not level because of the hump so it's hard to make it fit. The ZJ rear seats might work, the ZJ and XJ are within an inch of each other... Hey, if the ZJ seats will work in the XJ let me know... I'll run up to BC and get another set of heated leather seats... ;) john Jesse Barbieri wrote: >Does anyone know if seats from a jeep grand cherokee will fit in a jeep cherokee? I think next time I go up to the junk yard i will take the seats home with me to try out. I was up there today and found a rear sound bar from a '98 cherokee. I think they call it a sound bar in the cherokee...it has two speakers in it and it goes on the rear roof and aims at the front seats. I also found a brand new barrel jack that comes with the cherokee. Too bad I have a 3" lift and it wont reach the frame...never tried it on the axle. I have been restoring the interior of my cherokee for a couple months now. The rear window was leaking but i found that the top of the gasket/seal for the window was not even on.. I could push the window out if I wanted to. I took the interior completely apart. Patched many holes in the rear cargo area, made a new floor board from the passenger side front to the back seat above the muffler. I also covered the interior including the roof with dynamat. Some areas still sounded like a thin piece of sheet metal, so I put many layers over them. I put about seven layers of dynamat over the floor board on the passenger side. The roof liner was completely hanging and only being held up by the sides, lights, and the sunroof. I bought 3 yards of grey fleece at walmart for the roof. I completely sanded the fiberglass board and used 3M super 77 spray adhesive to hold the fleece on. It looks like a brand new car (minus the stupid front seats). The outside looks like a normal off-road, beaten, dented, fenders rusted out, 16 year old jeep. While I had the think apart, I saw two large bumps in the bed of the cargo area. It took me a while to figure it out. I guess at one point I or somebody else towed something too heavy, and It bent the frame and pushed it up. I wish I had taken pictures of it while I was doing all this work. I will take pictures of it when I get a chance. It looks beautiful.
