Thanks for the info guys. So pretty much everyone says avoid the early boxy models eh? Crud, those are the ones I prefer & could easily afford. I now work at a Dodge/Jeep dealership & could walk off the lot w/ a new or Program 04 GC(all of them 4.0 equipped) right now, but I don't want to sink myself in that kind of debt. Think I may have to start watching for bargain low-milage/late model XJ then & just avoid the Grand until the "now-current" becomes the "had-been". Thanks again Miah __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Why is this happening. make them fix it... if that was what it was in for... connectors? wiring? can't be that hard to figure out with a schematic... john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://wagoneers.com ** ** http://freegift.net ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 05 Feb 2004 08:47:08 -0800 From: HC Carter Subject: Re: xj: Grand Chero Info Hey - just a note on the ZJ thing - I also like the looks of ZJs very much - something between the classic XJ look and the newer, swoopier WJs etc. I have a 97 XJ (or my wife has) -and- a 94 ZJ (or my son has) - both w/ 4.0L engs. They both are great! Sure the XJ is quicker - but the ZJ is excellent and a better road cruiser and a bit roomier. I don't hot rod either and I don't berserk 'em off road either (I have a Wrangler for that). So I would just say that, within it's parameters the ZJs ROCK! Especially at the prices they can be had for now! Cheers - Howard = = = on 2/5/04 5:27 AM, Jeremiah Westpfahl at the_miah-at-yahoo.com wrote: > Hmm... I've been tempted by them from time to time as well... fwiw, our top truck xj challenger has had at least 2 Zj's, his better half drives it... of course his first one had tranny troubles... ;) I've seen some sub-10k WJs for sale!!! 4.0L's Laredo... worth looking at. john Jeremiah Westpfahl wrote: > Hmm... I can't imagine someone that designed either of those classics being involved in something as... well, let's just say I have trouble with the idea that he was some how involved in the ZJ. :) Got link? inquiring minds want to know... thanx for the history lesson in advance. :) john > Heya > > Does the name Larry Shinoda ring a bell? My wife picked up a 1990 Cherokee sport 2dr with the 4.0 and command track 4wd. Everything was functional except that it had a rear main seal leak. Told the sales rep we would give him $1000 and take it off the lot the same day it came in...They were glad to see it go. Had my local shop fix the seal and weld the exhause manifold for extra strength (it was showing stress cracks and these break on a regular basis) for $500! The vehicle has been going gang-busters ever since and that was 50,000 miles ago! Ed web/gadget guru - --- Jeremiah Westpfahl wrote: > Hmm... The prosecuting officials argued that his claim was so utterly ridiculous that he was surely ripping off investors. He was ultimately released but not before being admonished by the judge to stop making any more fraudulent claims. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! I have had extensive time behind all 3 wheels. All 3 have the 4.0 and both Grands seem to be plentiful on the power. Naturally, it is no Viper, in fact, it's no XJ, but it is able to do what you want it too. In fact, the ZJ has towed a couple of Sea Doos without even noticing. It has towed a lot of cars including the XJ up a mountain at 55MPH, and the WJ has moved cross-country with half of a house in a U-Haul trailer. I think you would be quite pleased with any of them. By the way, both Grands have had a new tranny put in them, but we suspect a dealership that has had criminal action taken against them of tampering. (Will I get sued for copyright from all the name-dropping in this email?) By the way (2), update on the XJ with the shakes: John, your questions on noises in the front while cornering were good. It turned out to be u-joints in the front axle and the pinion seal and bearing on the rear. She runs like a 250k mile top... noisy as heck, but fun an amusement park of fun. Ryan K ><> From: "Mike - G" Subject: xj: Re: Grand Chero info wanted True, but everyone says the weight of a Grand vs a regular Cherokee, it NEEDS the V8. And the 4.0 with it feels gutless. However the 4.0 with the XJ seams well matched. Never driven one, it's just what I've heard. ------------------------------ End of xj-digest V1 #1778 *************************
