The track bar nut came loose so that wasnt even connected anymore, and both front wheel u-joints were so bad that the yokes would have needed replacement if I didnt fix it at the time I did. As soon as I hit even the smallest bump at 60mph, I would have to slow down to 20mph as quickly as possible. The whole thing would shake, my steering column is real loose because of that. When I took it in the shop, we found the nut for the track bar (ball joint end) stuck in some grease right next to the mounting hole. We also found the cotter pin in all the greese when we wiped off the track bar mount. So someobody forgot to put something back together. I know y'all don't hear from me much, but I've been reading everything here daily. Today, in Huntsville, TX (about 60 miles north of Houston on I-45) I spotted a Jeepster for sale by owner. I don't know the owner, I haven't talked to the owner, and I have no stake in the sale of this vehicle but I thought some of you might be interested. Since he posted his number on the windshield, I assume he won't mind it being published. The number on the vehicle is 936 291-8910. If you mention me he won't have any idea who the eff you're talkin' about. As I said - I don't know him and I haven't talked to him. The Jeepster is a Commando 4WD with what look to be 30" mudders (I didn't think to look at the tires as they obviously weren't original). Everything else does appear to be original. It is unlifted, uncut, with original bumpers and probably original paint. The soft top, however, must be recent as the plastic is clear and unclouded and the material is too clean to be that old. The interior also seems to be original although I suppose the seats might have been recovered at some time. I don't know if it runs: I didn't even open the hood. The t-case is passenger side drop and the front axle is leaking at the diff housing cover and at each side where there is a gasketed housing where the u-joints should be (I'm not familiar with this axle so you'll have to excuse my noobie description). On the windshield he's asking $3,950. I have no idea what Jeepsters are going for but, unless the motor is totally shot, I suppose that's a good number to open negotiations. That's all I know unless you want some pictures. I'm taking my digital with me tomorrow. I want some shots for myself and I'll post them on Sony's Imagestation. You should see a note from me here tomorrow with an invite URL. Remember, the owner doesn't know me and he has know idea that I'm posting this. However, I consider this no different than phoning a friend and given that he's already posted his number on the vehicle I have no qualms about publishing the number. Happy hunting. _________________ XJ Dreamin' Stock 2WD '93 XJ, 4.0L HO, AW4, D-35c open rear, dead pipe 4WD front axle ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Sep 2004 07:34:23 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: Re: xj: Jeepster for sale so you don't know the owner, eh? ;) what year is it? in '73 they changed the grille so it's probably a '67-'71 or so... pretty cool rigs, built with a lot of CJ-6 parts.
