So I zipped over to their house, unjammed the slightly damaged garage door and the undamaged car was extracted without trouble... ...only to turn and see their large hairy and smelly dog chewing on my new intake manifold gasket out in their driveway... :( ...seems the dog has a thing for cardboard and she just helped herself to the box o' parts in my open trunk and started chewing... This big, hairy and smelly dog absolutely loves me. I'm always concerned that she'll try to jump up on or in the car. She's a real sweetheart, all 160 lbs or so worth... :) So, I made sure the doors and windows were closed but never imagined this dog pilfering car parts out of the trunk... :) Leaving their gated yard the dingaling dog followed me out too... times like this makes me glad I only have a small cat. :) The guy in the parts department got a real chuckle out of it... special order part, will be in on Tuesday, again... oh well, really didn't want to work on my car tomorrow anyway... ;) john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://wagoneers.com ** ** http://freegift.net ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 30 Oct 2004 20:15:00 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: xj: the cost chart Ok, here we go. (I love spreadsheets... :) This was done in OpenOffice, "copied" and pasted into a Korn shell in Linux... no microsoft code was used or harmed in this operation. :) The way this table works is simple. The left column is the MPG, from 15 through 40. The cost per gallon is across the top, ranging from $2.01 through $2.45 per gallon. The figures below represent the cost of fuel for 400 miles. The formula is simple: =400/$A3*B$2 400 divided by the column on the left, field fixed to "A", floating by row, multiplied by fixed row "2". So, if regular unleaded is $2.15 and my Jeep gets 20mpg it costs $43.00 for 400 miles. And if Diesel is $2.45 and my 300d gets 30mpg, it cost $32.67 for 400 miles. Clearly driving a Diesel is still more cost effective than gas, at least for me. :) Have fun... john meister 400 miles cost per gallon per tank at mpg on left MPG: $2.01 $2.05 $2.10 $2.15 $2.20 $2.25 $2.30 $2.35 $2.40 $2.45 15 $53.60 $54.67 $56.00 $57.33 $58.67 $60.00 $61.33 $62.67 $64.00 $65.33 16 $50.25 $51.25 $52.50 $53.75 $55.00 $56.25 $57.50 $58.75 $60.00 $61.25 17 $47.29 $48.24 $49.41 $50.59 $51.76 $52.94 $54.12 $55.29 $56.47 $57.65 18 $44.67 $45.56 $46.67 $47.78 $48.89 $50.00 $51.11 $52.22 $53.33 $54.44 19 $42.32 $43.16 $44.21 $45.26 $46.32 $47.37 $48.42 $49.47 $50.53 $51.58 20 $40.20 $41.00 $42.00 $43.00 $44.00 $45.00 $46.00 $47.00 $48.00 $49.00 21 $38.29 $39.05 $40.00 $40.95 $41.90 $42.86 $43.81 $44.76 $45.71 $46.67 22 $36.55 $37.27 $38.18 $39.09 $40.00 $40.91 $41.82 $42.73 $43.64 $44.55 23 $34.96 $35.65 $36.52 $37.39 $38.26 $39.13 $40.00 $40.87 $41.74 $42.61 24 $33.50 $34.17 $35.00 $35.83 $36.67 $37.50 $38.33 $39.17 $40.00 $40.83 25 $32.16 $32.80 $33.60 $34.40 $35.20 $36.00 $36.80 $37.60 $38.40 $39.20 26 $30.92 $31.54 $32.31 $33.08 $33.85 $34.62 $35.38 $36.15 $36.92 $37.69 27 $29.78 $30.37 $31.11 $31.85 $32.59 $33.33 $34.07 $34.81 $35.56 $36.30 28 $28.71 $29.29 $30.00 $30.71 $31.43 $32.14 $32.86 $33.57 $34.29 $35.00 29 $27.72 $28.28 $28.97 $29.66 $30.34 $31.03 $31.72 $32.41 $33.10 $33.79 30 $26.80 $27.33 $28.00 $28.67 $29.33 $30.00 $30.67 $31.33 $32.00 $32.67 31 $25.94 $26.45 $27.10 $27.74 $28.39 $29.03 $29.68 $30.32 $30.97 $31.61 32 $25.13 $25.63 $26.25 $26.88 $27.50 $28.13 $28.75 $29.38 $30.00 $30.63 33 $24.36 $24.85 $25.45 $26.06 $26.67 $27.27 $27.88 $28.48 $29.09 $29.70 34 $23.65 $24.12 $24.71 $25.29 $25.88 $26.47 $27.06 $27.65 $28.24 $28.82 35 $22.97 $23.43 $24.00 $24.57 $25.14 $25.71 $26.29 $26.86 $27.43 $28.00 36 $22.33 $22.78 $23.33 $23.89 $24.44 $25.00 $25.56 $26.11 $26.67 $27.22 37 $21.73 $22.16 $22.70 $23.24 $23.78 $24.32 $24.86 $25.41 $25.95 $26.49 38 $21.16 $21.58 $22.11 $22.63 $23.16 $23.68 $24.21 $24.74 $25.26 $25.79 39 $20.62 $21.03 $21.54 $22.05 $22.56 $23.08 $23.59 $24.10 $24.62 $25.13 40 $20.10 $20.50 $21.00 $21.50 $22.00 $22.50 $23.00 $23.50 $24.00 $24.50 ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://wagoneers.com ** ** http://freegift.net ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 30 Oct 2004 21:12:37 -0700 From: john meister Subject: xj: Jeep Comanche on craigslist - Seattle just saw this, $950 Runs great/looks good, 4cyl.4spd.30mpg new tires,new brakes,new radiator,ect.ect. 124k, hardshell canopy,bed mat Call or E mail Dave http://seattle.craigslist.org/car/47322711.html ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 30 Oct 2004 23:30:46 -0700 (PDT) From: Ed Kummel Subject: Re: xj: Mileage, lockout Yeah sure...I was going to do it anyway, but...time...uh-huh...it's not always there for me to use! I drop the images into a directory, do an "ls > ALL.html" enter vi, replace each line with a quick set of html code that puts each picture in it's own little table... takes me about 30 seconds, then I read in the text, drop it in the right place, my header/footer stuff and move on to the next email. :) the text with the pictures all loaded will be what folks see... I can do it from the linux shell in just a few minutes... it's not fancy, but it works well. :) Most folks have broadband so it's not too painful... and I usually leave the directory open so folks can view individual files... :) So, if you can zip or tar the images and text and I'll just unzip/untar in the directory and build the page from the command line. :) Feel free to plug your site. :) thanx! john On Sat, 30 Oct 2004, Ed Kummel wrote: >-->Yeah sure...I was going to do it anyway, >-->but...time...uh-huh...it's not always there for me to >-->use! >-->I have more pictures that shows a bit more, but I'll >-->try to get something up in the next week and send you >-->the code...I use a program called ImageEngine that >-->allows me to create a photo album and add captions. >-->You can see how this works at: >-->http://newton.tek-ed.com/newtspeed/index.htm (another >-->one of my passions) >-->I'll let you know when its ready. >-->Ed >-->web/gadget guru >--> >-->--- john meister wrote: >--> >-->> Ed, >-->> >-->> Excellent write up... any chance of putting that >-->> write up with the pictures on >-->> http://wagoneers.com/XJ/tech ? >-->> I'd be happy to put links to your site and even your >-->> email in there if you'd like, or just make sure that >-->> folks >-->> knew that you wrote it up. >-->> >-->> Of course the info is in the XJ digests linked to >-->> your >-->> site, but the digests are hard to get through... >-->> >-->> I've got some pictures of the throttle position >-->> sensor >-->> that I'm putting up one of these days as well... >-->> >-->> thanx, >-->> john >-->> >-->> Ed Kummel wrote: >-->> > 20mpg is great!
