I don't mind it at speeds above 20mph... but when I'm on a 45 degree snowy slope aimed at my wife's picket fence and I want the wheels to stop... and the brakes to stop... I don't like them... you press the brakes and you don't stop... it's not fun... I can pump my own darn brakes thank you... AT freeway speeds they're handy and can keep you on the straight and narrow... but dang it, turn 'em off below 20mph please... actually, I can do that on my mercedes... all I have to do is put a switch in line with the fuse. ;) the mercedes abs scared the crap out of me one day... was heading through a light in a t-intersection... was going way fast, plan was to brake hard, hook the left and get back on it... of course it was raining, I live in Seattle... well... I nailed the brakes at the point I wanted to set the car up for my left turn and the pedal felt like an electric shock and went to the floor... I didn't slide, I did slow down, but I did not like the experience... I would have much preferred to have had all four wheels lock up and that would have said to me, get your foot off the brake you fool unless you want to be embedded in that hillside over there... :) >--> >-->> Both WJ's had trouble getting up the paved drive this morning... maybe 3" >-->of >-->> snow... Also, the warning light comes on at 1/2 tank. The fuel gauge on my '98 XJ (Sport model, if that makes a different with the dashboard) is so unreliable we have been using the odometer to measure gas usage for the past two years. At first the gauge would still show 1/4 tank left when in fact we were out of gas-- at this point it can fluctuate between showing a completely empty tank (when we've filled up 5 miles ago) to a 3/4 full tank (when we know we only have 20-30 miles of gas left). A coworker who also has an XJ ('97 model) has the same problem with his gas gauge. He had his gauge replaced twice before giving up on fixing the problem. I'll admit that I've never asked this list about this problem though-- so, is this type of gauge behavior common in late 90's XJs?
