A: LPG only stinks when it's not set right (unless there is something in US LPG that isn't present in Canadian stuff) It's the only fuel that can be used indoors on forklifts, etc. Getting it isn't hard either (250 stations in this state alone and all are findable on internet maps). It's finding a good price that's the problem! (I have a 1,000 gallon tank that will run my rig for a year w/o refilling at 25 mpg. Even longer if I only go to and from work! 2.5 miles each way) I called in the Channel 9 "chat with Gov Gregoire" show the other night and was told the tax is supposed to be re-imposed back east because the gas companies are bitching about the competition! John wrote: yeah, but propane stinks, is harder to find AND they're working on tax exemptions for biodiesel... already done it in Rhode Island! plus I can run on waste veggie oil, old atf, old motor oil, diesel, biodiesel, kerosene, jet fuel, peanut oil, soybean oil, etc. I can roll up to costco, but a 5 gallon jug of cooking oil and get better mileage! ;) I've been gathering veggie oil from a local restuarant... need to get a pump and filter setup... I figure each 5 gallon bucket I get saves me almost $30! And I've getting about two 5 gallon buckets a week!!! My J10 will have three tanks... one for straight Diesel, one for whatever that needs to be filtered, and one that will be veggie oil that's been filtered... I'm going to mix it with the Diesel out of the Jimmy and use it in my benz until Superdawg is done... john ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 22 Apr 2005 00:01:34 -0700 From: "Jim Blair" Subject: xj: Re: Re: [db] I'm done... the '79 300SD is ready to roll... A: If you swap the XJ to 4.10 axles, it'll be able to pull that trailer, but brakes will be another story! (have you put a can of STP in that trans yet?) I took 2 loads of scrap metal in this AM before work. 1800lbs in the Comanche and 2400lbs in the J4000 (and I didn't get all the stuff off it either! I still have aluminum and stainless to dump along with AMC motor blocks no-one seems interested in buying. Miteaswell while the price is up!) Oh yeah! I got a full tank of less than perfect gas from the scrap truck too! (doesn't seem to affect the J4000 except when cold. Need to add some water remover) John wrote: I'm wondering if the '86 XJ with a 2.5L will be able to pull my trailer (75 J10 hydraulic dump, 2,000lbs empty), or if I'll need to do something else to get the 6.2/700r4/np208 down to Curtis in Centralia... I figure the engine will weigh in around 600-650lbs, the 700r4 about 150lbs, and the np208 about 65lbs. Say around 900-1,000lbs... oh yeah, and the 31 gallon Diesel tank... full... unless I can find a pump, then at least 10 gallons will be transferred to my Benz. ;) Harbor Freight has a sale on little trailers with 12" wheels... no weight info... I wonder if it'd hold a 6.2L Diesel and survive 105 miles? :) Hey, anyone got an FSJ running that's heading south in the next week or so? ;) Need to get SuperDawg's driveline to Curtis by the end of the month... that's next weekend... Anyone interested in a FSJ/XJ/DieselBenz gathering in Snohomish this Saturday to help pull this 6.2L out? :) I may try to fix the '92 sport... have about a week to figure something out... :) That XJ would make it just fine... maybe... Anyone care to test their troubleshooting skills on this '92 Sport you're welcome to come over... Where's Alan Chung when you need him anyway? ;) I'm confident it's something with the engine... and not the tranny/torque converter... the roughness is there off idle now. One vaccum line was off... changed the symptoms and elminated a major worry I had. :) That's actually good news... :) I did not look forward to yarding out a torque converter! The J10 trailer has been death to at least three vehicles so far. Of course not really death, just temporary disability. ;) All the affected vehicles are still with us... some are still limping though. ;) The '87 XJ spit up it's throttle position sensor. The Jimmy spit up 2nd gear. The little '86 xj just spit up... but made it up the drive and highway with it in tow! So if get the cat cleared, exhaust fixed and tuned and the cooling system working as designed it might survive the round trip to centralia with the trailer in tow... it's asking a lot of it but hey, it's a Jeep... :) Maybe I need to buy a 5 ton truck to haul that trailer. ;) I'd like to get down to Boeing Surplus and get some aluminum alloy channel to rebuild the bed frame, I figure that'll shave at least 200lbs off the weight. the only other area I can think to shave weight is to rebuild the tongue with less metal... but I like it's strength. it's sturdy, works and is extremely well designed... it's functional, but just feels too heavy... I guess once SuperDawg has the 6.2L with a rebuilt 700R4 it won't be an issue... we're so close... :) will be nice if the J10 pulls it without trouble, then I don't have to mess with it. ;) With 4.10 gears and that 700R4 SuperDawg shouldn't have trouble at all... Diesel dreamin' and some rapid wrenchin' continues in the Snohomish Monster Carport... ;) Thankful for longer days and nice weather... later, john ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 22 Apr 2005 03:08:18 -0400 (EDT) From: john Subject: xj: Re: Re: [db] I'm done... the '79 300SD is ready to roll...
