Changing the heads on a higher mileage motor can cause some oil consumption, so I wouldn't. Finding matching heads is tougher too. There are also other freeze plugs that you just push in and tighten a bolt to keep in place (as long as it isn't next to the exhaust!) From: barbierij-at-optonline.net Subject: xj: '77 FSJ 360ci Freeze Plug We started my '77 cherokee today and about 10 minutes of running the engine, my dad noticed some coolant dripping on the differential. We opened the hood and sure enough there was a pin hole in the freeze plug on the passenger side head. I got a socket that was the same size as the freeze plug and tried to tap it back in. Well the socket put a nice hole into to the freeze plug. Turns out the freeze plug was totally rusted. Is there any way to replace one of these without taking the head off? I guess taking the head off an engine that old isnt a bad idea anyway. Should I get a used head from a newer 360 in a salvage yard? ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 9 May 2005 20:14:14 -0700 From: "Jim Blair" Subject: Re: xj: Opinions sought: GM Dana 60 for xj A: D60 front would be overkill and super wide on an XJ! (unless you were going for rear steer!) A Grand Wagoneer (or any '80 up FSJ basically except wide track or pickup) Dana 44 front and Model 20 rear would work well. (It's been done by welding the brackets from a blown XJ D30 front axle to the D44 front and the rear nearly bolts in) From: Smokey99908-at-aol.com Subject: xj: Opinions sought: GM Dana 60 for xj >From a recent local ad: "84 gm dana 60 front end 456 gears ,locking hubs, disc brakes, matching rear both with rims and tires . axles are from a dually $600 for it all " not that I was in the market for this; but I do like the sounds of it if it would go well in my 86 xj with new chevy v-6 and holley projection2 TBI. stock height. Not interested in 'duallys' ; is it simple enough to convert to a regular 2 wheel setup? I'm checking on Q of if it has a 'pinion snubber mount' as Ive heard many on the market don't Seeking advice and opinions re: fit, conversion, price etc. I'm pretty naive when it comes to drivetrains. Seems to be a complete setup and a great price? Thanks all, Bob ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 May 2005 12:28:06 -0400 (EDT) From: john Subject: xj: Re: [db] pix xj's, wj's and ml's. I agree, the ZJ and the WK are not to my liking.
