I was just looking at the spreadsheet for the fuel record of my '83 J10. The last tank before #2 ring went away was 14mpg. It took 32.5 gallons of unleaded for a grand total of $46.12 got 14.01 mpg (not bad for a 4.2L in a J10 towing a trailer) price was $1.42... the year, 2001, January 27... ...fast forward to this afternoon... filled up my '91 300d, took 17.2 gallons, $44.19 at $2.57/gallon for a mileage reading of 31.48mpg... Thought I was getting a bargain since all the other stations I'd passed were $2.77 to $2.69... three blocks down 99 I saw a Shell selling Diesel for $2.49. :( Imagine filling up the J10 at today's prices... (many don't have to imagine. ;) It would have cost me about $87.75!!! Yikes... very, very thankful for my Mercedes Diesel!!! And looking forward to running the J10 on WVO! I picked up another 55 gallon barrel to hold vegetable oil. :) Need to get a fuel transfer pump and some filtration setup. Need to spend some quality time with Graingers or Northern Hydraulics. :) I'll be getting the Jimmy back from Curtis in a couple of weeks and will start mixing it 50/50 with Diesel... until the Jimmy sells or SuperDawg is done. :) Heading down to Olympia in the morning to buy a lower mileage 6.2L Diesel with a freshly rebuilt 700R4! It'll save Curtis a week at least and will get me a better driveline. Now all I have to do is sell all these extra projects and parts off!!! :) the following are available: - - '96 4.0L HO, AW4, custom adapter, NP219, all computers & wiring - - '92 4.0L Cherokee sport (almost ready, injectors next...) - - '86 2.5L Cherokee Chief ( " ", need to charge the a/c, fix an o-ring) - - '79 300SD, ready to go... - - '83 GMC Jimmy 6.2L Diesel - complete. :) john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://JohnMeister.com **** http://wagoneers.com ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold ** http://freegift.net *** http://greatcom.org/laws/languages.html ** - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 15 May 2005 04:48:59 +0100 From: "Dick Jenkinson" Subject: Re: xj: RE: reset maint req'd light? Hi Guys/Girls Haven't posted in a long time. Woodworking keepin me too busy. But I do have a question. Got the good old "Check Engine Light" again. (Usually just cycle the key enough times to shut it off, but this time thought I'd check it. Went to the local AutuZone for the free diagnostic but they couldn't find the reader plug-in. ??? I've got a 96 sport and they looked under the hood. Is it in a differant location on this one ? Never looked for it and can't find a location in my Haynes. Thanks Everybody Dick Jenkinson Engineered Benchwork ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 May 2005 23:44:24 -0500 From: JeepNut Subject: Re: xj: '92 4.0L progress You won't find one... I'm looking at the diagrams from the '92-specific FSM... no relay in the circuit. Both the Maint. Req'd. and the Check Engine lamps are set by the ECU directly. No relay. I'll scan 'em to you if you like. Just let me know. And I'm pretty sure you have to use an OBD-I tool to reset it, that's why the bulb option is so commonly prescribed.
