Well, last night I was driving up my road and heard a bunch of clunks and the RPMs jumped way up. I was embarrased so I put it in 4wd and drove into my back yard. My friend and followed the fluid trail down the road and at the end there it was...my rear driveshaft right in the middle of the road. I knew I should have done a SYE sooner. Good thing I was only driving up my hill instead of doing 65MPH on the highway. I think I will take a chance with it later tonight. - ----- Original Message ----- From: ernest breakfield Date: Sunday, May 22, 2005 12:56 pm Subject: Re: xj: rear driveshaft > seems like it should be OK; i know of people who have done it for much > further than that. > we do much worse to them when in 4WD! ;-) > > unless you've already done a Slip Yoke eliminator, the issue > is usually > how to keep all the fluid in the TCase when the rear shaft comes out. > > > cheers! > e > > > barbierij-at-optonline.net wrote: > > > Would anybody here know if I should trust the front driveshaft > to drive > > 20 miles? I have TWO 6.2L's now... I may be looking at a Grand Wagoneer... if the body and interior are good I may take the 6.2L I have in my Jimmy and do that transplant while Curtis does the retro in my J10. I've picked up the last fitting to make my pump/filter setup work... Going to attempt to run 5 gallons of veggie oil mixed with Diesel straight into my '91 300D... I'll have a tow strap with me just in case... ;) Anyone else commuting I-5? whazz your cell number... ;) john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://JohnMeister.com **** http://wagoneers.com ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold ** http://freegift.net *** http://greatcom.org/laws/languages.html ** - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 May 2005 22:42:42 -0400 (EDT) From: john Subject: Re: xj: VW Diesel Jeep On Sun, 22 May 2005, Marc wrote: > -->Hey Jim, that engine looks familiar. :-) > -->Did you install it yourself? The engine was running at 1100 RPMs most of the way even up hills. I think it only shifted twice when going up some steep hills. I think it is a NP242 Tcase. Thank you everybody for your help.
