Well, think about it for a minute... A 50 pound bag of concrete is roughly 6 to 8 inches thick, 24 inches wide and 40 inches long. That's 7,680 cubic inches. Add water (one gallon is 6 pounds) and that's about 70 pounds for every 7,500 cubic inches, roughly. What you have is 47,138 cubic inches. That's about 500 pounds using the above as a reference. Figure that there is another 200 pounds of rebar and you have about 700-1000 pounds per panel, and give yourself about 20% as a fudge factor and that number should be pretty close. Of course, this is just rough estimates, but it can give you an idea of what you're up against! Unused, still in the containers... Type F, Dextron II mostly, very little III because they're using that... QUESTION IS THIS: ...does it matter what type of ATF I run through my Diesel(s)? I know someone on the list has been burning it without problems, so I may even try it in my '91 300D... or use it in the 6.2L Diesel. This source isn't going to be enough to fuel my fleet for long, but it's a start. :) No one answered my other QUESTION about whether the clear water pump at harbor freight would pump veggie oil either... :) whazza matter with you people? :) Don't you understand Bohemian engineering? That pump is on sale! BTW, I fixed the injector line on shadowfax... found out that the line retaining clip had disappeared, that is about the longest line too. Now my 2.5L TD is a 5 cylinder again, and it wasn't the veggie oil. :) I found a used transmission for my GMC Jimmy... (thanx jim b.) It looks like I'm going to have the Jimmy working properly and setup for dual fuel. It'll be a test bed for SuperDawg's fuel setup. Once SuperDawg is done I'll probably pull the driveline out of the Jimmy and make a 6.2L Grand Wagoneer... if I can figure out how to get away from the tailgate setup, and provide of course that SuperDawg works with the 6.2L setup. Of course with the lack of time I seem to have, I may just use the Jimmy as a people mover and the J10 as my primary mobile. Of course there is always the dream of a Mercedes Diesel powered XJ... but after seeing Steve's complex steering setup in his MJ I'm not sure I'm up to that kind of fun. :( Although he is working on a redesigned oil pan so the sump is in the back... Been doing a little reading on the veggie oil, it's a little hard on the rotary vane type pumps, like what's in the 6.2L Diesel. Guess I should keep my eyes out for spare pumps and injectors for the 6.2L. I also found out that a 6.5L TD can use the 6.2L pumps! The 6.5L had issues with the electronic injection pump. hope y'all have a nice long weekend... and hope that someone will answer my questions on the ATF and that clear water pump. ;) john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://JohnMeister.com **** http://wagoneers.com ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold ** http://freegift.net *** http://greatcom.org/laws/languages.html ** - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 28 May 2005 18:28:21 -0400 From: barbierij-at-optonline.net Subject: xj: 4L removal As many know, I am currently removing the engine from my '89 XJ. I have been working on it for a couple days now but only about 4 to 5 hours a day. I still cant figure out what type of socket to use on the top bolts on the bell housing. Are those 8pt heads? I tried a 12pt 10mm on there, and of course the socket spun. I took the motor mounts out and even cut the passenger side mount that is on the block so I could lower the engine a couple inches in hopes of being able to see the top bolts. All I have to do is get these 8 bolts out and the engine is ready to be lifted out. I took pretty much everything out from under the hood minus the steering and A/C components (I am going to do a complete OBD2 setup from a 96). ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 28 May 2005 21:25:55 -0700 (PDT) From: Ed Kummel Subject: Re: xj: 4L removal Why remove it? Take the tranny out with the engine! It's easier to take out and easier to put back in! I've never done this on a Jeep before, but I've swapped out engines many times, and it's always easier to take the transmission out with the engine. It's not worth the hassle otherwise.
