I plan to use the 2" spacers because I don't want to spend alot of money and I use it on the freeway. It is not for hardcore wheeling either. I just want a set of 31" tires to make it look more agressive. I use the ZJ for pulling my utility trailer and that is about it. The filter is a new FRAM from walmart. Same filter I use on all my rides. Is is possible that the oil is the problem. I used 5W30. I was thinking that maybe the sending unit was malfunctioning. It is good thing that I have a fleet so that I another car to drive. My big plans are to put in a Cummins 4BT and a better trans. Probably never happen, but I dream. The 42RE is the real weak link in the ZJ otherwise it is a great vehicle. I wanted an XJ again, but it is just too small for my needs. I wish for more power so maybe some intake and exhaust mods will be done to the 4.0L.

A: But... but... but I work next to the main NAPA warehouse for the Northwest! (they didn't have either the OEM or replacement number in the system locally. I finally got one yesterday from Sea-Tac Transmission warehouse and they have 5 left of a box of 10 they bought in 1990) I just got the torque for the flywheel this AM and I'm finally going to put the motor into my '84! (once I get off the durn net that is!) From: "ernest breakfield" Subject: Re: xj: dang hard to find parts! well, i can't say that should be too much of a surprise; after all, you are talking about looking for a part for a relatively unpopular engine/trans combo in a vehicle that was produced 2 decades ago, and on a Holiday, at that... ;-) cheers! e > I spent a big chunk of yesterday looking for a pilot bearing and finally > found one today. Sea-Tac trans has it (under a > different part number) but apparently it's an obsoleted item! ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 1 Jun 2005 22:04:03 -0700 From: "Jim Blair" Subject: xj: Re: dang hard to find XJ parts! Victory! Finally! The 4 cyl AMC motor isn't back in the '84 Cherokee yet, (the pouring down weather and my re-adjusted, reactivated intestinal tract had different ideas of how I was to spend the early part of my day) but I did convert the internal slave bellhousing to work with my original external slave cylinder (with minimal effort other than brain energy) I had to buy a clutch fork ball stud (NAPA help rack # 615-1425 ) and cut the threaded part off (keeping as much of the shaft as possible) and reemed the hole where the pivot ball was in mine to 7/16" (I had JB welded the one that fell out of mine back in place before realizing I didn't have the right bellhousing to convert to Renix TBI and I didn't have a good internal slave cylinder) Next, I will JBweld this pivot in place (the hole should have been 11 mm but beggars can't be chosers at this time and JB will keep it in place) and I checked the arm, etc for depth. (within a 1/4" in height) so it's a go! Looked to me like the same conversion would work on the Peugeot BA 10/5 bellhousing, but I don't know if the arm is the correct width. I'm using the trans from the external slave as well, so I don't know if there is an issue with the input bearing retainer on the internal type other than the roll pin that keeps the internal in position. I took pictures as well, once I figure where to post them (maybe my photobucket.com account) I'll let those who are interested know. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 2 Jun 2005 01:18:45 -0400 (EDT) From: john Subject: xj: Re: fsj: Re: dang hard to find XJ parts! jim, if you trim the pictures down to less than 800x600 and label them clearly (and in sequence) I'll put them on wagoneers.com. smaller pix are better as bandwidth has become an issue... write up a nice clean, step by step to go with it... like: 1) drop bellhousing cover xj_cltch_1.jpg 2) loosen slave cylinder xj_cltch_2.jpg and so on... if you can attach the correctly named and sized pictures along with a nice clean, linear, step by step I can turn that into a web page probably faster than you can load it into your browser. ;) (thanx to a dsl connection. ;) john On Wed, 1 Jun 2005, Jim Blair wrote: >-->Victory!
