That was just so we could load it in my truck sideways tho!) From: "Don Hansen" Subject: xj: XJ pickup truck!!! Today I saw a WEIRD Chero! The guy had chopped off the roof and windows, etc. from the front seats back!!! I don't remember my exact feelings about the liberty, but I do recall that I liked the Toureg... If my veggie oil setup works out I may be driving my J10 and Jimmy more often because of the costs, etc. My wife for some strange reason actually likes riding in the Jimmy... and since it's actually a "passenger" vehicle it's suitable for family use. In fact we traveled across the states in the one we had before, also a 6.2L Diesel. If the J10 works as well as expected with the 6.2L Diesel and the new 700R4, well, I won't be driving the Benz nearly as much... if we keep the Jimmy for a passenger unit, Diesel powered of course, then that's another strike against the 300D. The third strike for the benz is the seats... my wife's back does not like the seats in the 300d... I'm not fond of them, but they're better than what's in the Jimmy... so we'll see what the summer unravels... Now that I have my email fixed I need to get the '79 300SD back out there for sale, finish fixing the '86 and '92 xj and see which one my daughter wants so we can reduce the cars in the driveway... ;) only have: '99 wj, '91 300d, '92 xj, '86 xj, '75 j10 trailer, '91 grand am, and the '79 300sd... oh yeah, and in the next week or so the '83 jimmy, and then hopefully not too long after that, the '83 J10 stepside... This article appeared in our local paper (here in CT) not too long ago. Car's alternative fuel said to attract bear WINSTED, Conn. -- A Winsted man believes the sweet smell of the vegetable oil he uses to fuel his car attracted the bear that damaged the vehicle white trying to get at the biodiesel. Larry Joy, a 53-year-old electrician, said the bear shattered a window on his 1981 Volkswagen Rabbit, tipped the plastic fuel tank on its side, and gnawed on car hoses about two weeks ago. He said the evidence included muddy paw prints around the broken window and a pool of cooking oil on the rear floorboards. ''I knew what it was after," Joy told The Sunday Republican of Waterbury. ''I think it's cool that bears do whatever they want." Joy uses a combination of diesel and vegetable oil left over from restaurant fry vats to power his car. He says it gets 44 miles per gallon. The car needs to be started using regular diesel, because vegetable oil is too thick for the engine to handle. When a gauge indicates the engine coolant is at 90 degrees, it is warm enough to thin the biodiesel, and Joy can flip a switch to change fuel tanks. When the coolant hits about 150 degrees, Joy said, there is a sweet smell. ''My neighbor said it smells like cheeseburgers," he said. The state Department of Environmental Protection told Joy he should discourage the bear from returning by using bad-tasting bait. The agency recommended the placement of a balloon filled with water and ammonia and covered in cooking oil on his car. Joy said he had no plans to get rid of the Volkswagen. ''I love this car," he said. john meister wrote: >> >> nope, I've driven both models, but not with the Diesel. >> >> I don't remember my exact feelings about the liberty, but I do >> recall that I liked the Toureg... >> >> If my veggie oil setup works out I may be driving my J10 and >> Jimmy more often because of the costs, etc. My wife for some >> strange reason actually likes riding in the Jimmy... and since it's >> actually a "passenger" vehicle it's suitable for family use. As many of us know, I am giving my '89 xj a newer '96 or '97 4.0 engine and complete setup. My question is if I buy an ignition for my '87 will it work with my newer engine? I only need to drive the '87 a couple feet uphill. The '87 lost it's rear driveshaft which was a blessing in disguise... and that is an absolute need for the SYE and I can finally give the rear end a couple more inches of lift. But that won't happen too soon. Anyway, I have seen some MSD ignitions on eBay going fairly inexpensive compared to what even the salvage yard gets for the stock one. And I might as well get something different than stock. I checked autozone.com and under the listing for ignition control module for the '96 engine, they state that it is not applicable. What gives?
