High flow cat is nice and a good quality muffler as well helps a LOT! I took the test here and passed with flying colors w/o the cat guts. (fresh oil change to Delo 15W40 and a new Thermostat to ensure correct temp and that was it! (well, a bottle of Lucas injector cleaner, but I do that every 5th tank anyways) From: "Okiebinder" Subject: RE: xj: 4.0L engine issues Thanks Jim, When I bought the Jeep, the air filter had quite a bit of oil in the air filter. I changed all the vac lines out with the kit you can get from Jeep. Which did away with the blow by problem I was having. I just changed my air filter a couple of weeks ago, it had no oil in it after a couple of years now. I had a MAP sensor installed a few months ago. However I have never cleaned out the hose to the MAP sensor. I will do that tonight. Thanks for your ideas. I live in Oklahoma.... we don't have inspections here any longer. I wonder if I can just do away with the cat on my Jeep... or does the Jeep need to have the cat to operate correctly? It is a 1987 4.0L. Just a thought. Thanks again Jim. From: john Subject: RE: xj: 4.0L engine issues I found out that the catalytic converter actually helps get rid of carbon monoxide as well as hydrocarbons... if you use a high-flow cat you won't block your system and keep things working well. The newer emissions systems are actually quite good and help efficiency. The stuff from '75 and earlier, well... that's another story. :) john ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 22 Jul 2005 20:20:50 -0700 From: "Jim Blair" Subject: RE: xj: 4.0L engine issues Re: higher NOx. My keyboard is really messing up these days. I am having a terrible time here with my '87 xj. I have tried a couple pinion yokes on my rear dana44, and nothing has worked. I even purchased this item: http://www.discountjeepparts.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/23901 Brian, the Sales - Tech of Off-Road MotorSports, Inc., told me it would work since it is 26 spline. This yoke goes on about .5" and stops. My original yoke goes on, but one of the tabs is broken and three bolts are broken inside it. Even if I drilled the yoke I still would not trust not having the tab to center the ujoint. Can anybody help me find a ubolt yoke that will definitely fit my axle? It is a 26 spline dana44 from my '87 4.0 4wd xj. I have no cars that work (and on the road) right now. The water pump in the ix just seized. Jesse. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 24 Jul 2005 00:29:17 -0700 From: john meister Subject: xj: wagoneers.com back on line... almost I rebuilt wagoneers.com, new hardware, SuSE Linux... have the web server up using Apache2. have ssh working... but I can't seem to get mail working. Originally when the system was setup there were some DNS issues. But those shouldn't be impacted by the server swap, used the same name, same IP. anyone familar with postfix on Linux? I could use a little help off list... Turns out the Sun box didn't die, it hung on fsck on reboot... haven't looked at the logs to figure out why it dropped out of service though... thanx, john ------------------------------ End of xj-digest V1 #2138 *************************
