Like I said, I haven't been following the thread. I'm glad it can be done, because I am thinking of doing something similar to my 88MJ. However, I am also thinking about going with some sort of V8! I really would like something with POWER! I'm sick of bogging around with my 4.0, 35's and 4.88 gears. This will be a project for the future though. Right now I am just about to attempt swapping the driveline ('88 4.0, Puegot 5 speed tranny setup for 2wd, and front axle) from my '88MJ with a good body to a doner '88MJ with a rusty body just for a beater and then save the good body for "project" status. From: "Jesse Barbieri" Subject: Re: xj: terrible time (the real one) plus another question Jeff, All the terrible work has already been done. I completely stripped the '89 under the hood, added the engine, and changed the '99 wire harness so the '99 engine still retains all its controls except for the tranny, cruise, and torque converter lockup. I kept the '89 A/C because it is still R-12 and it has great pressure. I must have spent a week doing the wiring. So the only way for me to complete this project is to use the tank from the '99 XJ or try and fit the fuel sending unit/regulator into my original tank. I imagine that the tanks share the same dimensions. On day 1 it looked like my jeep vomited all its wires out. I not that old yet, but I don't every remember a diesel dakota. I am currently thinking about a MB swap into a 2wd Dakota. This would be for my Dad. He already has the truck with high miles, but it is in good shape yet. I have seen alot of donor 300D turbos. Rust buckets with low miles. I have a ZJ and I bought it with future turbodiesel plans. Just have to find the right combo and have the money for it. The Automotive News article also reports that over 60,000 consumers have expressed interest in the vehicle. This comes as welcome news, as Chrysler is planing the use of diesels in other products for North America. Europe specification Jeep Grand Cherokees and Chrysler 300 sedans sold in Europe use diesel engines. ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://JohnMeister.com **** http://wagoneers.com ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold ** http://freegift.net *** http://greatcom.org/laws/languages.html ** - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 10 Aug 2005 13:46:18 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: xj: off-topic search for a part... soft top for K5/K15 I'm looking for either a slide-in camper (Chalet) for my '83 GMC Jimmy, or a soft top/ tonneau cover. Found a few new, but their all in the $400-$500 range... There HAS to be a used one out there somewhere... I found one ad for a used Chalet, slide-in fiberglass shell for $100, emailed the guy... not sure it'll keep my overall height below 6'6" for the parking garage though... Found out that the back top weighs 300lbs!!! No wonder it was hard to get off the truck by myself, thought I was just tired from travelling. ;) I think a soft top setup would be better though, any one know of any around? http://www.trippnet.com/Soft_tops/blazer/ http://sf2000.registeredsite.com/~user853159/miva/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=SoftTops&Product_Code=TTDT1 http://www.offroaddesign.com/catalog/softtops.htm http://www.coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?s=a97d5fe8436122d0e4aeda4b2fe15eac&p=1273453#post1273453 http://www.4wheelcustoms.com/Products.asp?Cat=629 thanx, john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://JohnMeister.com **** http://wagoneers.com ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold ** http://freegift.net *** http://greatcom.org/laws/languages.html ** - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ End of xj-digest V1 #2148 *************************
