Nearly hit a herd ourselves, but I have this thing about slowing down for blind corners. Especially after seeing a car headed the opposite way with steam pouring out and headlight hanging loose! From: Subject: Re: Re: xj: Need help ... I hit a bear!!! Thanks John, I had not thought of the pipe wrench idea. I might just do that.... it is now on the short list. My hi lift jack is at home. I just won it last month. It is still unused wish I had it with me now. Yep a large, full grown bear. Not something you want to see at midnight on a dark interstate, while going 65MPH. We were lucky, it could have been really bad. Thanks for the pipe wrench idea. David ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Sep 2005 0:44:26 -0400 From: Subject: Re: Re: xj: Need help ... I hit a bear!!! Aaron, Thanks for the offer to help. I have not pulled the bumper back out yet. It is not rubbing the tire under normal driving conditions. However I would like to get out on some backroads while I am up here and I would not be comfortable with it the way it is now. I really need to fix it before the 750 mile drive home this weekend anyway. I don't want to have trouble on the way home. I have a couple of things I am going to try. I will be making a drive over to Blackhawk and Cental City within the next couple of days. I will let you know if I need to take you up on your offer to help. You guys are very helpfull. Thank you. I hit a bear!!! Just let me know when you might be heading up here David and if you want to use my garage and tools - I'm about nine miles north of Black Hawk and my physical address is 289 Aurora Rd in the CO Sierra subdivision about mile marker 15 on Hwy 119 headed towards Nederland. Coming from Copper Mtn on I-70 E towards Denver, take the new Central City Parkway just two miles E of Idaho Springs. That will take you 8.4 miles to CC, which then goes another mile E to Black Hawk. From where that main road "Gregory Street" intersects with Hwy 119, turn N and head up to my place mid-county. Most of the better restaurants and larger casinos are in Black Hawk (Isle of Capri, The Lodge for buffets), with the exception of the large Fortune Valley in CC. More historic buildings and such are in CC though, so it's a better place to walk around for that old-timey 1800's architectural feel. My daytime office phone down in Denver/Broomfield is 720.888.3958 if you need to get in touch with me during the day. My newspaper office is in my home, so is the same as my home number - 303.582.0133. If you want to look up my address on Mapquest, use the physical address here: Aaron Storms 289 Aurora Rd Black Hawk, CO 80403 303.582.0133 aaron.storms-at-mindspring.com www.gilpincountynews.com Cya, Aaron - ----- Original Message ----- From: To: ; Sent: Monday, September 19, 2005 10:55 PM Subject: Re: Re: xj: Re: Need help ... Someone suggested a body shop in Silverthorn, so I went there. They were able to pull the bumper out far enough to make me comfortable with the clearance. The best part is they did not charge me a dime. These are great people. I first went to the wrong shop. He was going to charge me $100-200. So thanks to whoever it was that pointed me to the correct shop. If I lived here they would be doing the repair work. Many of you offered to help pull the bumper. You offered tools, a garage....and time. Thank you.... I wish I had taken you up on your offers, just so that I would have a chance to meet some of you. This is great community full of very nice people. It is nice to know that all most anywhere you go there are people who are willing to lend a hand.
