My son decided he doesn't want to part with the Jimmy... so the 6.2, part deux, or is this tres? is cancelled... however, he wants the '91 360 for his Javelin... so that puts me back to either the 4.2L rebuild or a 4.0L rebuild... if he's willing to pay for the rebuild kit, it's a done deal... So, should I go with a 4.2L/T-5/NP208 or the 4.0L/AW4/NP219 setup? But I have a 92 xj in Phoenix. Last year we had overheating problems and replaced the radiator which solved the boiling over issue but it was still getting hot like 225 which if ran in third on surface streets instead of allowing overdrive. This is what I have done: Checked the flow - looks good Bleed the air - installed a T on the heater hose to do this Replaced the fan clutch Checked the electric fan - comes on when hot and running the ac In the morning commute seems to be ok with AC on and mixed driving doesn't get over 210. Lunch time(110 degree plus outside) run short errand with AC seems to be around 220 but when you stop and shut the vehicle off it boils over Evening commute home (113 degree outside) ran 5 miles with AC to gas station temp reached 240 so left running while fueling and turned off AC. Drove home from their without AC on freeway 70mph+ and heater blowing high causing cool down to 215. As soon as I parked it boiled over. I have been told that yeah xj's do that because IT's HOT here right now. Change the radiator over from closed system to open with a 97+ 2 core alum radiator. With that can you confirm the solution as being the change over? Or is the solution to park it until it cools down in Phx?
