Ethylene Glycol is optimum at 50%, it increases the boiling point as well as lowering the freezing point. Google it and confirm though, lots of stuff has changed. :) The howstuff works site might have something. I"m connected via my wireless modem, not a great signal here in yellowstone. :) Verizon is great though, I don't think I"ve lost coverage anywhere except at the top of Glacier... john On Tue, 25 Jul 2006, ernest breakfield wrote: >-->hi john! >--> >--> are you sure? >--> what i've read in the past stated that straight water was better at >-->transferring heat than antifreeze, and it's the pressure in the system >-->that increases the boiling point, not the mixture... >--> >--> >-->cheers! >-->e >--> >--> >-->john wrote: >-->> >-->> 50% is the recommended blend, it increases boiling point as well as lowering freezing temp... >-->> >-->> john >-->> >-->> On Mon, 17 Jul 2006, Jim Blair wrote: >-->> >-->> > -->PS: Make sure the antifreeze isn't too thick! In Mitchell, SD... where it's 105+ degrees... had the pinion seal replaced on the rear axle ('99 WJ). only $59 here, got a quote in Everett for $380. Hmmmm... interesting. the WJ averaged between 18 and 19 mpg... cruised nicely at 75mph. Very happy that we took the WJ over the Mercedes 300D... more room, way better seats, and the WJ a/c has just barely been able to keep up with the 100+ temps we've been seeing... the Mercedes would have killed our backs and baked us alive. :) Spotted a few nice FSJs on the road, lots of XJs, not too many flat fenders have been spotted... pix up at: http://wagoneers.com link off the main page now. john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ** http://JohnMeister.com **** http://wagoneers.com ** Snohomish, Washington USA - where Jeeps don't rust, they mold ** http://freegift.net *** http://greatcom.org/laws/languages.html ** - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ End of xj-digest V1 #2379 *************************
