I've searched but have come up empty. It seems that all 4 doors' seals have deteriorated to the point that the inside is soaked after any rainstorm... and water pouring in from the tracks when I take the first few turns after the rain......:) Thanks for any input, Paul ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 26 Nov 2006 17:52:00 -0600 (CST) From: David Smith Subject: xj: [Fwd: [XJ] 97 zj repairs/ mechanic?] So I'm looking to get a little bit of early december work done to the jeep while I have some christmas money.. I'm wondering if someone can recommend a good mechanic in Houston, preferrably near the northeast end (near beltway 8) but I'm willing to go anywhere if someone can really recommend a good mechanic I can trust. 1) I need someone capable of diagnosing my driveline issue of blowing ujoints as well as someone capable of replacing the steering links (track bar and control arms). 2) I need a second someone capable of doing excellent exhaust work, I want to replace the header with the banks copy from autopn (http://www.autopn.com/store/pc/viewprd.asp?idProduct=20009) and I've seen notes about requiring some grinding, so I want to make sure whoever installs it is capable of making sure it fits right, as well as check the rest of the pipes down the stream for cracks and be able to fabricate/replace them as needed. thanks, dave previous message; [snip] >>> >>>> >>>> Hi, >>>> >>>> I've had this issue for some time now, it took the mechanic a good >>>> week >>>> to >>>> finally find it (and believe me that it existed.) >>>> >>>> Symptoms: >>>> 1) Vibration at around 45-50mph, usually when going downhill under >>>> braking >>>> or coasting after braking. I have been thinking of doing just that. I got hurt in a bike wreck on Friday, so I have not been up to tackling this job yet. My thought was just replace all the injectors. Same amount of work, but known results. The o-rings were about $20 for the full set, so for about $130.00, seems like a good time to just replace them all. Any other leads on a good and inexpensive source for injectors? Anyone? If I recall I remember someone using Ford Mustang injectors. Any advise on how much flow? Crossover part numbers... anything along those lines, would be helpful as well. I grew up on a farm in Canada, so I had most of 34 acres to bomb around in. When I tried to access the last 5 acres that was blocked by the creek (Serpentine river) my poor old '61 Vauxhall Victor didn't have the proper tires or ground clearance for a water crossing! Took the tractor down to pull it out before my dad got home from work. (I would've gotten a hiding if he knew!) I also used to wheel a '65 Pontiac Stratochief 4 dr sedan with Ford 1 ton coils under it for a 5" lift. We made it everywhere till we went to a lake during winter time through snow up to our fender tops. I made it in through the hills and such down into the crater by Davies lake and had to come back out in reverse. A 4x4 was waiting for us at the top of the hill and when he saw us come around the last corner, he took off. He had sunk into the compacted snow and my car dropped all 4 wheels into the holes and got high centered. A buddy from work charged me $50 and a case of beer to get me out with his 4x4 a week later. Car was still fine with tracks going around it and it only took a little tug to get it off the hump and rolling on it's own again. My brother and I had tried to dig it out all night long with pieces of rear 1/4 panel we cut off and branches nailed to them to make shovels. (my then pregnant wife helped by driving the car when it needed it but we couldn't get it to budge) My dad showed up the next morning as we were trying to walk out. They were more scared than we were, but we came prepared. I had a hand winch (comealong), my toolbox, Gerrycan with gas, firewood and paper to start a fire, 2 spare tires and lots of food (we made tea with my cig lighter kettle and fresh snow melted plus we had a bunch of freshly bought groceries) I had my cookstove and enough woods sense to survive quite a while on what we could catch (had some VERY nice salmon. This was before I found out I was allergic to fish, but we had allergy stuff with us too because of my younger brother's allergies) The other thing was we let people know where we were going and didn't change plans. That is VERY important during winter outings! From: john Subject: Re: xj: Jeeps outclimb an H1 hummer the military videos I saw of it showed it going through a swamp... I'm kind of thinking that the driver was a bit sheepish and not Jeepish... If my kid can take a Mercedes 300D off road, and another friend of mine a Volvo, and I've taken a Ford Fiesta up trails... I think it's more the driver than the Hummer... of course I want to think that Jeeps are really better... ;) a buddy of mine came over with an H1 and made it up the test hill after a bit of effort... but he did make it... john _________________________________________________________________ Get the latest Windows Live Messenger 8.1 Beta version. If something I'm checking out turns into the real deal, then a diesel will be needed to test it on. A buddy that works for KIA is looking into bringing over one of the KM450s from Korea. I told him I want one as well if they aren't too expensive. Being a used vehicle, the emissions may be more lenient. From: "Allen Zylstra" Subject: RE: xj: Jeeps outclimb an H1 hummer It is amazin where a small xj will go. My future diesel plans are starting to point toward the sprinter vans. I still think a diesel Jeep would be nice. Allen _________________________________________________________________ Get the latest Windows Live Messenger 8.1 Beta version.
