Also new components from NAPA might not be outrageously priced. I would look for a dual-diaphragm booster/mc. I'm not sure what years first started receiving them, but I know 96+ definitely did. There is a write-up on Jeep Wire that discusses swapping a single diaphragm with a dual WJ system. http://www.4x4wire.com/jeep/tech/brakes/xj_wjbrakes03/ http://www.4x4wire.com/jeep/tech/brakes/xj_wjbrakes03/booster/index.htm - -Marc- - -----Original Message----- From: owner-xj-at-digest.net [mailto:owner-xj-at-digest.net] On Behalf Of Ed Kummel Sent: Friday, December 08, 2006 12:41 AM To: xj-at-digest.net Subject: xj: ABS VS Standard PWR brakes swap OK...I've been futzing around with the POS brakes on my 89 Wagoneer LTD...This is the one with the stupid ABS system designed by an imbecile...The darn thing just came back from the dealer on a recall replacement (that cost me $200 anyway) and they still don't work. I've asked people on the net about these brakes and the consensus of opinion seems to be that these brakes are just junk (someone said that they are french designed...that could explain alot) and that I should save myself a boat load of worry and stress and just replace them with a conventional PWR system... So, there lies my dilemma... I live in the fastest growing suburban area in the united states and as a result all the auto grave yards have been long ago replaced by million dollar town homes...(a million dollars for a town house? sheesh! sure, they have elevators instead of stairs, but come on!) So... I make this plea. Does anyone have a donor XJ in the years of 91-95 that has the master cylinder, vacuum booster, combination valve and brake pedal just sitting there doing nothing? I will gladly pay a reasonable price for these items and the time for removing and shipping...As it is, it looks like my Wagoneer is going to be sidelined for yet another winter...good thing I have my 90 XJ Sport! I never thought of looking on the web for junkyard stuff...They always seemed kinda "lo-tech". Anyway, because we have laws in my area about performing "major" automotive work on your property (they claim it's to prevent you from running an automotive repair business from your garage...but we all know it's an effort to get you to buy a new car instead of repairing your old one) most auto parts stores have left...we used to have a "Napa" dealer in Leesburg, that they left earlier this year...I only know of two places that sell auto parts to the public...and one of them is Advanced Auto and the other one is a 45 minute drive from here... Suburbia can sometimes suck. Ed web/gadget guru "Marc W. Grobe" wrote: Hey Ed! If all else fails there are searchable junk yards online. http://www.junkyarddog.com is one. If you get the run around, offer to have the BBB, State Attorney General and NHTSA look into it for them. They should get off their duff and fix the issue or they will be looking at $50,000+ in fines.
