A: They changed the spline count on the output shaft in '91 to 23 spline. The std trans started a bit sooner with the swap to AX-15 starting early '90. I have been searching the net as well as parts rigs. There are NO 21 spline AX-15s to be found anywhere. (in spite of some claims to the contrary. All the ones I have seen were really BA 10/5s) and no 23 spline BA 10/5s (ditto in reverse. AX15s swapped in by dealer or?) The AW4 was 21 spline right up till 08/90. (I've checked several 07/90s and they were all 21. all 08/90s so far have been 23 spline) As long as the tcase you have matches, it doesn't matter till after '96 (OBDII AW4s got another sensor) From: "Allen Zylstra" Subject: xj: Renix vs HO AW4 Popcorn may be needed. I don't think this would be that much of a problem, just might require some different wiring. There is also a wire from the TPS for the transmission that I assume goes to the transmission computer. I think this changed with the HO too (if the engine ecu controls the transmission, the transmission wouldn't need it's own signal from the TPS). I have both, just too busy to check. I should have time over the weekend... if I remember. Jim is correct about the output splines... anyone want a well used BA 10/5? Peter J.
