On closer examination, I find that it is the rubber and metal band that holds the leafs together. My question is; is this a critical piece that I need to replace asap? or can it wait until the weather gets better to perform this maintenance. My second question is, what can I use if I can't find a suitable replacement metal band...Can I get away with a worm-gear hose-clamp? Ed Don't You Love Mistyping URL's.... - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ....when they turn out to be pretty neat. In this case I was trying for Engadget.com, and instead wound up at www.edgadget.com which appears to have lots of Newton software. - ProfessorF from the UK pcpro/macuser forum - --------------------------------- Want to start your own business? What I do is disassemble the pack and put new pads in them, then reclamp them, I also use amsoil sythetic grease on them... makes my rig flexy... no squeaks and shouldn't be a problem with water as the amsoil grease is water resistant... john On Tue, 20 Feb 2007, Ed Kummel wrote: >-->OK...After the week of snow and ice here on the east coast, I approached my 1990 Jeep Cherokee this morning and saw something hanging from my rear left leafspring. >--> On closer examination, I find that it is the rubber and metal band that holds the leafs together. >--> My question is; is this a critical piece that I need to replace asap? or can it wait until the weather gets better to perform this maintenance. >--> My second question is, what can I use if I can't find a suitable replacement metal band...Can I get away with a worm-gear hose-clamp? >--> Ed >--> >--> >-->Don't You Love Mistyping URL's.... >-->------------------------------------------------------------------------ >-->....when they turn out to be pretty neat. >--> >-->In this case I was trying for Engadget.com, and instead wound up at www.edgadget.com which appears to have lots of Newton software. >--> >--> - ProfessorF from the UK pcpro/macuser forum >--> >-->--------------------------------- >-->Want to start your own business? About every 2 months the shortest leaf starts to twist a little bit. It looks like it just might be able to twist enough to rub the inside of the rear tires, but I give it a few wacks with a hammer before they can get close. I am just too lazy to get new clamps or put on some kind of alternative. If I ever get some good rear springs I will paint and grease them and make sure they have clamps. Peter J.
