I made a low offer and he's come back... 2001 Limited... the guy rear ended someone, no insurance... other bad part is it lived in NY for a few years... salted roads, not sure if that's a big issue with a newer xj (thoughts?) most of the items that get rusty on the newer ones get rusty here over time anyway... http://wagoneers.com/tmp/XJ/all.html the book value is close to $10k... I'd replace the front bumper with an aftermarket bull bar... replace the header panel and fender, and may even have the entire jeep repainted (not a fan of black)... gray leather interior with heated seats. :) think it's got around 100k on the odometer... infinity stereo... any idea what a fair price would be for this thing? the guy has to move and we've been swapping emails for a while, I haven't driven it yet... he's a smoker so the interior will need to be scrubbed... he says the paint is good, just dirty or frosty in the pictures... he's not in the immediate area so it'll be a while before we can hook up... I may take a short road trip next week... if I get this I'll sell Omega as is... probably ask book value, or state assessed value at $5k. Omega is so incredibly rust free though... I love crawling underneath and looking at how clean everything is... heading over to olympic to get a proper steering well, a/c vents and the spare tire hardware... ordered a new air tube and dash cover from carpartswholesale.com yesterday. wish Omega got better than 10 mpg. ;) the xj is supposed to be pretty good with fuel, guy claims low 20's on the freeway, been there done that, no reason to doubt him. If SuperDawg weren't in the fleet Omega would get more attention... If the XJ gets the same as my '87 did, around 17 in town, I may part with Shadowfax, we'll see... I'm giving more thought to getting another tank to start using my veggie oil... and replacing the passenger seat with something my wife will like... ;) john ----- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://freegift.com ** http://wagoneers.com ** - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Feb 2007 16:20:41 -0600 From: "Allen Zylstra" Subject: RE: xj: 2001 xj limited instead of Omega? I've decided to part with the '91 Grand Wagoneer. http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/Omega/1_home_21Jan2007/ALL.html I picked up a few stock parts to fix a few more things. Have some emissions parts coming in as well. Decided not to finish out the minor body work or repaint it as that could actually work against me. If the body work or paint isn't done very well it'll be worse than what is there now. So, my question to you, fellow listers, is what is the best way of putting this thing up on ebay? My usual approach is to list all the good points, stock items, modifications, parts that come with it, work that has been done, history, etc. And then list the bad, the items I know will need attention. In this case, a few body dings and some vandalized paint, minor, very minor stuff in the grand scheme. This vehicle is totally, absolutely, rust free. It's amazingly clean underneath. I don't have the time to smooth out the issues, or even to get it running as well as it should. I start classes again next weekend, half way through grad school... The other reason for selling now is I've found a nice seemingly clean wrecked 2001 Cherokee Limited that I will need money to buy and fix. http://wagoneers.com/tmp/XJ/all.html Hope to check this out in the next two or three weeks. Wish it was closer to me right now... :) Remember, my goal was to have one nice 4x4 daily driver. I'm still waiting, and have been for my '83 J10 stepside to be done with the 6.2L Diesel. After driving this old GW around I'm not sure that I even want an older vehicle, other than my '48 CJ-2A, any more... maybe I'm getting old, I don't know. :) It also looks like I would keep my '91 300D either way. It's been such a great car that I can't part with it. I am going to start looking at a dual tank setup for it to use up my veggie oil. The 124 is the best Benz I've ever had. At least my wife is a little less hostile to the idea of several vehicles, but we'll see. :) Anyway, what I'd like from the list is recommendations on what to say, what not to say, and what kinds of pictures are the best to show. My plan is to be brutally honest, show all the details with excellent photography and even list out estimates of repair. I will probably put it up on ebay without a reserve at $4,500, that's about $500 less than the state values it, and less than book. Of course, considering the $1,100 worth of estimated body and paint work, it's still above it's actual value. But again, this vehicle has NEVER been in salt or a harsh environment. It has been kept in a garage all it's life. Other than a teenage driver that did the body damage learning to drive and the weekend joy ride by some punks that tore up the original transmission, this thing has been well cared for overall. The 360 is the cleanest I've ever seen. It's fast too. I'll do a little wrenching on it today when I install the stock spare tire setup and clean it up for pictures. Here's a few pictures, will work on a better page that shows the details, and remove the early ones that showed the vandal damage. http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/Omega/1_home_21Jan2007/ALL.html Also, need to put the stock wheel caps and steering wheel back in... :) need to get wrenching and clickin'. thanx for ideas and such... hope to have it on ebay by tomorrow afternoon... john ----- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://freegift.com ** http://wagoneers.com ** - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 24 Feb 2007 12:03:25 -0600 From: "Allen Zylstra" Subject: RE: xj: 2001 xj limited instead of Omega? I would think that the damage in the pics if done by a professional using mopar parts is about $2000. If the interior needs a cleansing that is what about $300 for a really good detailing. That is my estimate. If the book is 10K then 7K? I would offer low.
