John, I have a hard time thinking that you will ever only have two vehicles. I looked at you page the other day that has all the cars and trucks you have owned over the years..... need I say more? I think I am with your good friend.... I think "john", I think JEEP! However I am a Scout guy, but also love my Jeeps, so I understand your dilemma. That said..... you probably will not have any of them for to long anyway. (at least not complete) The Scouts price sure seems high..... but it is the highly sought after diesel, and an '80 as well. It is more than I would pay anyway. I would have to drive it a really want it to pay $9,000. I am voting for the 48 CJ or the 83 J10. I might fall in love with it... who knows... funnier things have happened. but I'm leaning toward the J10 as the toy... because I'll sell my trailer and put a dump bed on the J10 so it's still useful. really do want to get down to a couple of vehicles... well, three... ;) however I may continue to have a project vehicle in the stable from time to time, can't pass up bargains or free vehicles... fix 'em and sell 'em... have been able to get better tools and parts for the fleet. :) the guy is asking 8650 or so for the scout, has had a lot of interest... I'm the first one to look at it... book value is more, but it's not in book condition either... would have liked to have had that 2001 XJ... but it wasn't Diesel. ;) have a plan for Omega... bring my good 4.2/weber down to where superdawg is and put it back to stock, bring home the 6.2 Diesel and install it in Omega myself. :) figure a month, month and a half... john On Fri, 23 Mar 2007, David Bierschank wrote: >-->John, >--> >-->I have a hard time thinking that you will ever only have two vehicles. (fwd) this is a pretty typical reaction... this is from a friend in Australia... :) IH should have remained building harvesters and tractors, their Scout is the ugliest pile of manure on the planet, very poor construction, full of water traps, I wonder what AMC thought of them ripping off a lot of the Jeeps design. Horrible horrible cars, I wouldn't care if it ran on fresh air, I have friends and neighbors that I wouldn't wish scaring away. Besides it would hurt all my Jeeps feelings, even my wrecks would get up and desert me. .......Currently considering electric shock treatment to get any and all Scout images out of my head before permanent brain damage occurs. :) >a good friend tells me to stay JEEP and skip the scout... > but, my friend, it's a DIESEL!!! how can I resist the urge? >SO: >'99 WJ / '91 GW / and ? >or D - just the '83 J10 Stepside? > >butter with that popcorn? >john > ----- >---------------------------------------------------------------------- > Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold > http://freegift.com ** http://wagoneers.com ** >---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Mar 2007 17:03:12 -0700 From: ernest breakfield Subject: Re: xj: interesting article, fuel economy if you can get past the bad editing, don't mind the out-of-date info, and can recognize the biases, there's some interesting info there. ;-) cheers! e john wrote: > just stumbled onto this off of bjsoffroad site: > http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/fuel_economy.htm > > john ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Mar 2007 22:06:19 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: Re: xj: interesting article, fuel economy On Fri, 23 Mar 2007, ernest breakfield wrote: > -->if you can get past the bad editing, don't mind the out-of-date info, and > -->can recognize the biases, there's some interesting info there. ;-) sure, other than that... ;) john > -->cheers! > -->e > -->john wrote: > -->> just stumbled onto this off of bjsoffroad site: > -->> http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/fuel_economy.htm > -->> john ----- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://freegift.com ** http://wagoneers.com ** - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 24 Mar 2007 08:31:06 -0700 From: "Jim Blair" Subject: xj: RE: fsj: Re: willys or scout or ??? ... popcorn ready? It was a little challenging to keep Superdawg over the trailer until I told her I'd set the bed up to dump. phew... that was close. ;) so, the following is nearly unanimous... 1) john should be driving the '91 Grand Wagoneer with a Diesel. 2) many think "jeep" when they think "john" 3) that scout with square headlights is butt ugly 4) any scout owner (or past owner) likes the scout, (me included) 5) friends and family say put the Diesel in Omega 6) almost all say keep Superdawg. ...a few have said put the Diesel in Superdawg, but if I do that he'll sit at home for road trips... can't recline the seats or carry passengers... HOWEVER, under current Washington state license fees, it costs the SAME amount to license my J10 hydraulic dump trailer as it does a RUNNING J10. Only added expense for the dawg is insurance, and it's not that bad... If I run across another 6.2/6.5 Diesel in the future I may go that way with the dawg. The 4.2L I have was rebuilt and has a Weber 32/38, clifford intake and valve cover. So, my plan is looking most excellent. 1) I will put the 6.2L Diesel in Omega, with any help I can get here. Hope to get the engines moved around in the next two or three weeks. 2) I will put the rebuilt 4.2L in Superdawg and keep the T5/np208 setup... really liked that setup... saw high teens for economy with it... will be a good errand runner, home depot shuttle, bark dust/top soil getter... and an occassional drive to work vehicle. Superdawg will have 4.10's instead of 3.31's, so he should be pretty snappy off the line. Maybe the lower gears will help in town economy as well. 3) I will sell the Mercedes 300D when Omega has run through it's first tank of Diesel and has proven reliable. 4) I will sell the J10 trailer when SuperDawg is back in Snohomish. 5) I will sell the Willys CJ-2A later this summer, after having some fun with it. If the J10 isn't home by summer's end I may keep it around a while longer. It takes little space and only costs $110/yr to insure. This plan satisfies my FSJ and Diesel desires. I'll miss shadowfax and the little willys, but not all that much. :) well, back to homework... john current: '99 WJ/'91 300d/'91 GW/'83 J10 stepside/'75 J10 trailer/'67 J100/'48 cj-2a target by summer 2007: '99 WJ/'91 GW 6.2L Diesel/'83 J10 stepside ----- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://freegift.com ** http://wagoneers.com ** - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 24 Mar 2007 15:47:57 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: xj: alternate fuels paper updated... finished... http://wagoneers.com/CS/Science/TMGT621_project-AlternateFuels.pdf (fellow 621 types... this is WAY more than what was required... don't panic...
