To make things fair however, you should swap the batteries between the two laptops to ensure there is no battery influenced differences (double blind aint happening here!) I just couldn't well not exactly, lithium batteries are charged to 4.2 volts or so per cell, and should be considered dead when they arrive at 3.0 volts per cell. the best part about lithium is that they maintain a fairly high voltage throughout the charged range, and then suddenly drop towards the end of the discharge, compared to nickel batteries that have nearly the same voltage drop slope as the charge drops. > >so, with this info I can then extrapolate what the total power >consumption per day would be for each laptop running xp or >linux... and assign a dollar value to it. yep, i figured you were going for something like that. > >Yes, it was an idle system test... running a test using Open Office >in both OSs would be a good next step, but how can you do the same >exact things for two or three hours in both systems??? you >can't. so I couldn't make a valid comparison, the only valid way >of testing was in it's quiescent state. yea, the only question is, how many background processes were running on XP, and how many on suse, and what cpu average did they maintain on the system during quiescent state.. i guess the best bet would be to have absolutely no add on software, ie, from the moment you install the OS, use what a barebones install would give, and see how they compare. _________________________________________________________________ Mortgage refinance is hot 1) Rates near 30-yr lows 2) Good credit get intro-rate 4.625%* https://www2.nextag.com/goto.jsp?product=100000035&url=%2fst.jsp&tm=y&search=mortgage_text_links_88_h2a5f&s=4056&p=5117&disc=y&vers=743 ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 26 Mar 2007 08:09:32 -0700 From: "Jim Blair" Subject: Re: xj: OT - math help needed... Lowest savings was 18, highest 40%. Needed help in calculating the actual wattage, which I got from one of the fine listers. :) After writing over 100 pages for two different homework assignments I was having trouble with basic math. :) results will be formally published in a few months... this is my capstone project for my masters degree. > -->From: "Don Hansen" > -->Subject: Re: xj: OT - math help needed... > --> > -->OR you could rest your poor old brains and PLUG IT IN!!!!! > --> ----- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://freegift.com ** http://wagoneers.com ** - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 26 Mar 2007 09:44:45 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: xj: tempted fate... without popcorn! I tempted fate... actually test drove the '80 Scout Diesel. I had to do it... I would have always wondered... glad I did. The scout was ok. but couldn't get excited about it though. It has rust in the rocker panels, and probably more than 57,000 miles on it... blue smoke in exhaust in a Diesel... not the sign of a low mileage unit. asking price was $8650, probably worth about $4500. Of course I'm tempted to make an offer at $3k... why do I even consider such things??? I do this, and then I end getting it... the seller finally realizes his gold mine is a lead mine and off loads it on me... and I get another project.... so pray for me. I'll avoid contacting the guy... :) Anyway, Omega needs TLC, Superdawg is in a million pieces and shadowfax (the '91 300d), just keeps going and going... it just works. Omega wins the practical requirements hands down with only the tailgate and a few body wrinkles being negatives. Superdawg has the looks down, but limited cab space, longer wheelbase, no passengers and lack of weatherproof cargo. Shadowfax will stick around until all the bugs are worked out of Omega... Since I'll be doing the swap up here I may get fed up and bail on the project, or realize that having an FSJ as a daily driver is an unrealistic goal, even for a mechanic... :) If the WJ had a little better visibility, and a little better economy... ;) it has all the right gadgets, features, handling and power... towing my 2,000lb empty trailer this weekend really showed the difference in grunt between the '91's 360(5.9L) V8 and the '99's 4.7L V8. The 4.7 V8 pretends there isn't a trailer back there... it's an amazing engine. A very good swap candidate for any Full Size Jeep! Sure wish DC hadn't changed the design of the Grand Cherokee... I still might consider the WK with the CRD... it all depends on caffeine and popcorn intake... :) along with a winning lottery ticket ... :) anyway, the plan survived the weekend. :) final fleet plan: '99 WJ (4.7, "Wife's Jeep") '91 GW (with 6.2L Diesel) (omega) '83 J10 stepside (with 4.2L/t5)(superdawg) the '75 J10 trailer and the '48 CJ-2A might still stick around... shhhh... we'll see how long I can keep them around... ;) Omega will have to prove itself before I let Shadowfax go... y'all better get to costco/sams club or your local co-op to stock up on popcorn... we'll see how this year progresses... :) and how long it'll take me to get the 4.2L and weber down to Centralia and the 6.2L Diesel/700r4 and so on back up here... trailer is connected to Omega... just need to get in touch with Curtis... keep that popcorn warmed up campers... john ----- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://freegift.com ** http://wagoneers.com ** - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 26 Mar 2007 15:51:49 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: xj: the OT solution... thanx all ok, got the badly needed help on my math problem...
