I would take it up with the Better Business Bureau and ATRA (automatic transmission retailers association) A little pressure from within the industry for a (at least partial) refund can be a good thing! I would also look into small claims. From: "David Smith" Subject: Re: xj: the facts, 42RE and 45RFE I just had my 42RE rebuilt for the second time. The first time was only 30k miles ago by Cottman, by the way I WILL NEVER USE A TRANNY SHOP CHAIN EVER AGAIN to do a rebuild. Apparently the $2400 they charged me (which included $400 for upgraded parts) didn't even include a new torque converter! This was the solution to leaks everywhere, and shreds in the pan even after having the pan pulled like 3 times over the past week. Anyway I had a great guy in a little shop outside of Houston, that was recommended to me, do it this time. He charged me $1650 for the rebuild with a two year, 24k warranty and with a heavy duty transgo shift kit installed. So far the difference is absolutely amazing. He offered to adjust the shift points and hardness once for free, so over the next few months I'm going to really pay close attention to what it does and make sure I have a good written detail of what it does and what I want. Shifting from first to second is a little on the brisk side for my taste but nice, second to third right now is really sharp. Lockup is just about perfect, if anything it could be a little harder. Anyway I'll have to see how it settles down after a little wear in. I'm really loving it, no more lazy getting into gear or shifting. This guy claims the 42RE is a great tranny as long as its taken care of. Out of the factory, he claims luck of the draw, according to who slapped it together. Once rebuilt, if done with a shift kit he believes it will last a really long time. I bought a tranny cooler for it and it was installed this time as well, hopefully that will help tons. Thats it for now. Next project is my electric fan install on the jeep (97 ZJ) I have a hayden 10" fan everyone claims won't fit, but I'm sure it will, my buddy is going to do some custom fabrication to see to that, and I'm going to do the electronics for speed control of the fan, if theres any interest later we'll sell a kit with the fabricated parts and electronics. dave _________________________________________________________________ PC Magazine^Rs 2007 editors^R choice for best Web mail^Waward-winning Windows Live Hotmail. http://imagine-windowslive.com/hotmail/?locale=en-us&ocid=TXT_TAGHM_migration_HM_mini_pcmag_0507 ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 28 May 2007 21:54:03 -0500 From: "David Smith" Subject: Re: xj: the facts, 42RE and 45RFE I believe the same, its been a couple years, and past warranty, not sure what I can really get out of them.
