Normal was 8 to 10 mpg. The GMC/Detroit Diesel at it's worst so far has been 16mpg, best so far about 18mpg... 4 tank average to date is about 17 mpg. 0 to 60 times for the 360 were around 13 seconds, with the 6.2, about 19 seconds... Advice needed. This is on an 87 XJ with 4.0L with about 160,000+ miles. When I bought this Jeep a few years ago it had some oil showing up on the air filter. After some research, at the time I found that I probably need the ccv kit. I bought and installed the kit and have not had an trouble for several years. Then this weekend the Jeep started smoking and dripping oil. I looked around and found the oil was coming from the air box. There is a lot of oil coming through the hose that enters the back of the air box, from the front of the valve cover. I put my finger inside the valve cover and there is a lot of "sludge" inside the cover. I pulled the CCV system off and cleaned it up and reinstalled, with no change. I did some looking around the net and it sounds like I may need to replace the cover, due to the the PCV is actually made into the cover. Is this correct? or do I just need to remove a clean the junk from inside the cover? One article also talks about cleaning the return passages in the head. How many passages? and where are the passages located? (near which cylinders?) Should I replace the CCV system again, or just clean it up again? Also, do any of you recommend using some type of "gunk" remover, to try and clean out the system in the places I can not reach with just removing the valve cover? I bought this with 145000 on it and now it appears that the previous owner did not do a good job staying on top of the oil changes. I am hoping to get thinks cleaned up, because the engine feels like it has a lot left to give. Thanks for the help. I am just wanting to figure out what I need before I go see my friendly Jeep dealer. - -- David Bierschank Okiebinder okc67mustang-at-gmail.com okiebinder-at-cox.net ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 May 2008 18:43:53 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: Re: xj: Transfer case probably an NP231 - is it the command trac? part time & 2wd? if it says 4wd part time, 4wd full time and 2wd it's an NP242 john ----- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://wagoneers.com ** http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/Omega/ ** - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- On Mon, 5 May 2008, Moontanman-at-aol.com wrote: # How do I tell which transfer case my 91 Cherokee has? # # # Michael Hissom # aurea mediocritas # # # # # **************Wondering what's for Dinner Tonight? Also http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/2018127.stm The BBC + Sky news had a field day trying to make it look alot worse than it was. In fact the actual change over was very smooth. It took about one week.. and that was that. No fuss. Ed, I think you'll be in for a shock when you see how prices have gone here... how long has it been since you've visited?
