There is a sock that goes over the inlet/pump and it might be keeping the float from floating. I'd watch how many miles you put on this tank of fuel, when you get down to about 1/4 tank, pull the pump assembly out, it's easy, it's a little sliding lock assembly/turn ring thing... then carefully pull the entire unit straight out and check connetions and the float... I'd wear safety goggles, old clothes, nitrile gloves, doubled up... and would highly discourage smoking at this point in the procedure. ;) Doing this outside and away from any kindling is also recommended... I hate the smell of gas, it gives me a headache... Diesel is much healthier. ;) too bad you're on the other side of the country, I'd send my kid over to help... of course he'd probably say something like, "you don't need a fuel gauge"... ;) he's not into creature comforts and all those powered accessories. ;) If you're not able to crawl underneath and deal with it... just use the trip odometer as a gauge and carry a gallon or so in the back, I've seen some emergency fuel that is supposed to be safe to carry inside... I quit carrying extra gas in my cars because the fumes would get out of even the best plastic containers. john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://wagoneers.com john's 6.2L GW: http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/Omega/ SAVE FUEL use AMSOIL Synthethics: http://wagoneers.com/AMSOIL - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- On Thu, 29 May 2008, Moontanman-at-aol.com wrote: # In a message dated 5/29/2008 12:35:35 A.M. I'll check it out, the jeep is jacked up 3" so I can get under it fairly easily. Let's hope it is a loose wire. My son just went back to college in my car! His car refused to start after he came out of a restaurant. I worked on it all day and it just refused to start. I had to have it towed to a garage where they found out it has a security circuit that kicked in fro some reason and refused to allow the car to start, It ran when I sprayed starting fluid in it! The guy at the garage had to put it on the computer to find out what to do about the security system, it wasn't in the owners manual and it wasn't easy to get it to start again. He said the only cars he had seen this system in were very expensive cars not eight year old Chevy cavaliers! Michael Hissom aurea mediocritas **************Get trade secrets for amazing burgers.
