Swopped out the drivers side bearing last night.. looks like I found the culprit of the noises.. the axle had a groove worn into it. Unfortunately I HAVE to use the Heep this week for commuting (8 miles each way) so I cleaned it up as best I could in the circumstances (10pm, dark, small grinder on a dremel) and put it back in. It whining a bit back there ;-) Now to source a new/good used one.. Very often you can buy an offset bearing as a repair kit, the bearing will ride on a different area of the axle. Did this on my 77 Sedan de Ville.
