I got Advance auto parts to give me a new starter even though it worked on their test stand. Everything works fine now, evidently I was fighting at least two different problems, either a bad ignition switch and or a short in the ignition system and a bad starter after I changed out the original bad starter. so far everything is working well and I am very glad..... I think it was all in the starter/solenoid... easy enough to test... if you dare. ;) just reconnect the stock wire (you can leave your push button wire in place, shouldn't affect anything). If there is a short in your wiring it'll repeat the original symptoms, but my hunch is that it won't... and you'll have two ways of starting your XJ... redundancy is always fun. :) ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold SAVE fuel: use synthetics: http://www.AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 SAVE power: use LINUX: http://johnmeister.com/tmcp.pdf http://wagoneers.com http://gunbanobama.com/ http://freegift.com - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- On Fri, 10 Oct 2008, Moontanman-at-aol.com wrote: # I got Advance auto parts to give me a new starter even though it worked on # their test stand. Kind of confused things for sure. I may re hook up the ignition switch but right now I have to take a few days to recover, my hands are in flame and I can't do anything until they calm down some. OT ZJ OT OT OT I need to get some new shocks for my ZJ. One of the rears is clunking and one front tire is showing some unusual wear. I may need a tie rod end on that one. Need to get the alignment check again. The last place said it was fine. I don't drive it much just to tow the trailers. Any of the parts house cheaper shocks decent? Less than $30 each type. I look at the tirerack shocks too. KYB GR2 model looked okay, but looking for personal experience on a Jeep and not comparing to minivans and cars. Good ride, stable is important. Off-road ability not so much. I do have 31" AT tires that add some unsprung weight, but they may be going.
