Hey Gang I've been gathering parts to build a 4.6 stroker to replace the 4.0L in my 96XJ. I picked up a complete engine out of a 99 WJ with the 4.0 (for free!). I know that I'll have some issues with the power steering pump and other accessories. What I'm concerned about is any other fitment issues. Think I'll run into any problems? Thanks for your time - --Chris ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 27 Oct 2008 15:31:47 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: Re: xj: 4.0 Block differences? no fitment problems expected, however the 4.0 in the WJ would have individual coils, and the early versions of that motor had head issues. I had one in a '99 WJ and didn't have any trouble, but wasn't impressed by the economy... got about 1mpg more in town than my 4.7L V8, but only saw 18 or so on the highway, while the 4.7 will get nearly 21. I think the transmission was the issue on the WJ. I'm envious that you snagged a free engine, I need an engine for my '83 J10 Stepside. :) john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold SAVE fuel: use synthetics: http://www.AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 SAVE power: use LINUX: http://johnmeister.com/tmcp.pdf http://wagoneers.com http://gunbanobama.com/ http://freegift.com - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- On Mon, 27 Oct 2008, Christopher Wilson wrote: # Hey Gang # # I've been gathering parts to build a 4.6 stroker to replace the 4.0L in my # 96XJ. John Thanks. That puts me at ease. I'll be using my old head (reworked of course). I work at a Napa part time, so i get to know the guys at the local shops pretty well. If I come across something I'll let you know ;-) Speaking of the coils..they look new. I'll also be pulling the cam(crank?) position sensor (sticks in the same hole that a distributer would on my engine..) so if anyone needs one, let me know!
