They were trying to shape each others mouths with their hands to get the correct pronunciation... Had a similar experience (sans hands) with a Korean friend in trying to help him say the word "sealing". He kept adding a "ch" sound to the "s". Sounded like he was saying "shilling". I'm probably the last person on the planet to teach any language, my own kids mock my midwestern/Chicago accent. ;) And what I do to foreign languages is beyond despair... ;) Anyway, it reminded me of that commercial. I searched on youtube but obviously am putting in the wrong search criteria. I'm pretty sure it was early to mid-80s... would be grateful if someone with better search engine skills than me could find it. :) thanx, john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 http://creationwiki.org http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Feb 2009 19:23:24 -0800 From: Jim Blair Subject: xj: RE: fsj: OT: old car commercial Didn't find that but I did find this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ynXNzRNZpI Jim Blair, Lynnwood, WA '87 Comanche, '83 Jeep J10, '84 Jeep J10 > Date: Sun, 22 Feb 2009 12:16:14 -0800 > From: john-at-wagoneers.com > To: > Subject: fsj: OT: old car commercial > > there was an Isuzu Chevrolet commercial, I think from the '80s that > I've been trying to find on youtube... it was a japanese guy trying > to help an american say "Isuzu" while the american guy helped the > japanese guy say "Chevrolet"... it was a classic (at least in my mind). > They were trying to shape each others mouths with their hands to > get the correct pronunciation... > > Had a similar experience (sans hands) with a Korean friend in trying > to help him say the word "sealing". I'm confident the GW axles with 3.31s will make this thing "normal". The "new" GW axles arrive Saturday with 3.31s, will use GW springs and decent tires, that will make it a lot nicer. Biggest delay will be getting the correct driveshafts and a lever for the NP208. I believe these tires to be the original ones... with only 39,000 miles on the tug it's not unlikely... :) The 3.31's will almost make this thing road worthy... 45 mph seemed like the engine was screaming... only about 2450 rpm... guess that's a lot for a forklift motor that weighs 672 lbs. :) MPH/w gears: RPM 4.88s 3.31s 2450 45.33 63.59 Put the FSJ brushguard on last night: http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/rigs/1986-CJ10A/2009_Feb_22_brushguard/ looking for the front turn/park lights, and need to figure out what to do with the box... removed the 1,210lb ballast and the very heavy bumpers, that helped a lot. john -o|||||o- 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee (WJ) 15 mpg 4.7L V8/45RFE/NV247 1991 Mercedes 300D (124) 29 mpg 2.5L Turbo Diesel/AT (Shadowfax) 1986 CJ-10A ? 3.3L Diesel/tf727/NP208 1983 Jeep J10 Stepside (SJ) 14 mpg 4.2/T-5/NP208 (Superdawg) 1975 Jeep J10 long bed (SJ) hydraulic dump trailer 1967 Jeep J100 (SJ)Panel 232/T-85/D20 - for sale - $1900 -o|||||o- http://wagoneers.com/johns-vehicles.html ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 http://creationwiki.org http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Feb 2009 10:36:20 -0800 (PST) From: john Subject: xj: warped brake rotors - get power slotted rotors easy solution... get power slotted rotors. :) (don't get cross-drilled, just slotted) http://www.powerslot.com/ ? http://www.buybrakes.com/powerslot/apps-Jeep.html I've bought them from performance products, but a google search on power slot doesn't list them right away... (note that apparently the issue isn't thought to be as much about how tight, but how *evenly* they're torqued.) with proper installation techniques, brakes last many 10s of thousands of miles. i now also use PowerSlot rotors and find they're perhaps a bit more tolerant, but although they have their benefits, they also come with their own set of considerations. (downsides: they're a good deal more expensive, PowerSlot is very specific about what pads they want to warranty the use of their rotors with, and they end up not having quite as good of an initial first 'bite' when cold as the stock setup. upsides: they don't fade as much under heavy use while on extended descents and/or with a load, and dry off quicker and more evenly/progressively after getting wet.) i now carry my own torque wrench with me whenever i'm having any work done that involves reinstalling the wheels, and don't drive any further than around a couple of corners before i stop and check the lug nut torque myself. by doing this, i've found that no matter what the shop monkeys say about how they torque the wheels on or have their wrenches calibrated or use torque sticks to ensure proper torquing, they're out of spec more often than not. bottom line; nobody cares as much about these 'little things' as you're probably likely to when it's going to be you who has to pay for the consequences. check 'em yourself and retighten them periodically (especially if you have alloy wheels!) until they're found to be staying fully seated at full torque. cheers! e john wrote: > easy solution... > > get power slotted rotors. :) > (don't get cross-drilled, just slotted) > > http://www.powerslot.com/ > > ? http://www.buybrakes.com/powerslot/apps-Jeep.html > > I've bought them from performance products, but a google search on > power slot doesn't list them right away... > > > DO NOT reinstall factory OEM parts... the problem will persist, unless > they've changed them, doubt they have... > > john > > > ----- > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold > http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 http://creationwiki.org > http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > > > On Mon, 23 Feb 2009, Potter, Tom E wrote: > > # John, > # > # > # > # I am having another problem with my granddaughter's 2001 Jeep Grand > # Cherokee Laredo.
